I sure am very happy with the Pro90 not worried too much about a upgrade but still would like to see some firmware updates. How about you.--Steven

Steven,

I couldn't be more pleased with mine. Yes there are a few things that I would like to see fixed (add AF assist light, better MF, better focusing) but no camera is perfect and I can live with the few faults that the Pro90 has. With the 420EX it takes excellent indoor flash pictures and the 10x zoom is great not only for taking pictures of distant subjects but also for properly framing any subject. The battery lasts forever, the hotshoe is very convenient, the IS works great, the EVF is nice to have, the LCD is visible even in bright sunlight....I could go on and on :-)

I am extremely happy with this camera. I bought the Pro90 this summer in order to take pictures on an East Africa safari in August. I had a Cool Pix 990, but I needed the 10x Optical and IS. I added the B300. I took 3600 pictures! Everyone who sees them (I do not show all 3600 of course) always comments on the quality of the pictures. Even my 8x10s are incredible (I had been worried because of the

Certainly there are features I would like improved. Yet no camera is the ULTIMATE.

How do they compare to your 990?

It was a love/hate relationship with my Pro90. Loved the zoom and IS. Hated the CA, vignetting, metering, shutter lag (always on noise reduction), not being able to easily switch between EVF and LCD (or leave the LCD turned inside out and also use the EVF), not to mention the bulk. I did get some nice shots at 10x, but not consistently enough to depend on it (usually too dark, not properly exposed, and/or lots of CA).

When Phil's G2 review came out, lack of CA on the G2 convinced me to return my Pro90 in hopes of a Pro9x. Got tired of waiting and tried out the G2. I am really impressed with the CA reduction and metering (never have to "guess" or bracket anymore) and never having to worry about "occasional" vignetting (good riddance). I can also fit the G2 in my hiking shorts which is a big plus.

I really DO miss the IS on the Pro90 (much more than the 10x zoom). The B-300 on the G2 gets me halfway to the 10x zoom which is sufficient for 90% of my needs.

I have a love/hate relationship with this camera too. Love the 10x zoom with IS, the easy to hold & use form factor, the clever flippy LCD that you can actually see in the daytime. Hate the poor to the point of unusable built-in flash, the poor performance with external Canon flash, the poor quality of the EVF, poor AF ability, lack of AF assist light, very poor usability with studio flash, poor usability with the external Auto flashes that give better results than the Canon flashes. I dislike how hard it is to accurately focus manually, but like that the capability is there.

I dislike that when in manual mode, the viewfinder is too dark to use when using non-E-TTL flash, but like the same feature when shooting in manual mode with ambient light.

The Pro90 was, and still is the best compromise within the budget I can justify, I just wish Canon had thought it through a bit better.

I am very happy with the pro 90 - love that zoom, i have friends who purchased a film slr at about the same time - they are now looking at getting a digital camera, they were suprised by the movie feature (i know its not video camera quality) but they have a 1 yr old and were quite impressed with the movie it took, I cant wait to capture my dog either.

as i said in my first post when i got the camera i wouldnt care if the update came out tomorrow, this camera is just what i need.

I hope to have some photos up soon.

Ya . I am also very happy with it . see my 2 galleries at the signature . When I took those shots at certain place , not all photo appears at the end . Usually for 120 shots , 40 of them will turn up blur ... I can't see the image blur at the LCD review . Do you have this problem ?

Can Pro 90 IS take closeup shots like what G1/G2 does ?
