So here I am, with my new Uzi 2100, enjoying the fruits of my quest. And yet with the thrill of the search gone I find myself wondering:

Should I get an Oly E-100RS too!?!

This would be for stop action hockey shots of my son and the team that I coach.

I love the feel and quality of the Uzi. No regrets at all. But for those of you with either camera or both, what is your recommendation?

Is the Uzi sufficient for this task, or would you too consider delving into the purchase of a Rapid Shot also?

Or maybe its the quest that I love and not the bounty!

Thanks,

Isleman

Does the RS have a faster shutter speed than the Uzi? I thought it was more or less the same body, with a different CCD and faster innards? Is it the shutter speed, or the burst speed of the Uzi you want to go beyond?

Well I am a newbie and all, but I believe the max shutter speed of the Uzi is 1/800s and the E-100RS is 1/10,000s.

The shutter speed (up to 1/10000) is one of the things that really
impressed me when I tried one out at the camera store. In the midday
Texas sun, you could open up the aperture and watch it just grab
whatever shutter speed it needed. The eyecup was also great in the
bright sun.
The burst mode also lets you easily pan along with a moving object
without the hearky-jearky blackouts you get with the 2100 - there still
there, but quick enough as to not be annoying.
As far as the hockey shots - you'll still have the low light action photo
problem as the 2100.
Still I think that anyone that's serious about action photography should
think (quick) about this camera, I would have considered it a good deal
at less than $1000. At less than $500 it's a steal. Don't forget to factor in
the price of some big CF cards, or a microdrive. This thing can eat thru
memory real fast if you let it loose. Fortunately event these have gotten
really cheap recently.

I have a C2100, but decided to take advantage of the cheap price in Germany on the E-100RS

The easy access to the 1/10,000 shutter speed is nice. The microdrive compatible slot is a big bonus. Finally, after using single shot mode I was still begining to wonder what all the fuss was about.

Then I set the drive mode to burst and 15 fps. Now I know why I wanted to play with 15fps. The good news is that I easily hit 28 frames without pause holding the shutter for close to 2 secs. Large memory cards are essential as you can go through memory real fast. You also need good light condtions to get the best from the camera. I understand that with the FL40 you can even do 5fps with flash, although I do not have an FL40 yet.

I have no regrets about the E-100RS and only hope to hit a few sports/action events to try it out more. Well worth the $500 or £340 depending on where you live.

Everyone seems to forget the best feature of all. Sure the 15 FPS is awesome and no other camera comes close but......... Noone mentions the PRECAPTURE. This is truely fantastic. I use the precapture for baseball and it's like recording the past. I set up on a kid hitting and wait till he hits the ball to push the shutter release the rest of the way. No writing to the memory card unless they iti the ball and then you get the hit and the beginning of the swing, can you say negative shutter lag.

Give it 3 plus megapixels and I never need another camera (except for those that need to print 16 by 20s). You can push it to 8 by 10s but it looks great in 5 by 7s. I leave all other digitals at home now for sports and will sell them if they ever come out with the exact same camera in 3 plus MP. ( and a hotshoe).Dual media allows for over 1000 pics and you can do it at 15 FPS. Heck, I just ordered two more for freinds. Never hurts to have a friend having one if, God forbid, anything happens to mine.

Excited about this camera,
Roy

I got my E-100rs from NY-camera. They're very legit and friendly. My German is a bit rusty, so I just asked to speak with an English speaking employee, and I got a native speaker on the phone. My order arrived in a factory sealed box within two days (I live in Denmark). The only concern if you live in the US is that it's TV-out is PAL, not NTSC and the warranty is European, which means shipping it back to Germany if it breaks. On the other hand, you can deduct German Vat from your price for overseas purchases. I'm not sure how much it is, but I guess it's around 10-15% (in Denmark it's 25%).

Regards, Maxven

P.S.: There's a long E-100rs thread in the Oly SLR forum, where you'll find information on how long delivery time was for various people.
