How Much Is Clogging An Issue w/Epson Printers?

I've been seeing quite a few complaints about clogged jets with Epson printers. There have also been quite a few people saying how wonderful their NEW 780s are.

My question is for those people who have been using Epson printers for a few months.

How much of an issue is clogged inkjets on the 780, 785 and 890 printers. Do these printers develope problems over time. Is one more prone to problems than the others. My understanding is that all three use the same print engine. Is one actually more reliable than the others?

I have had 3 epson printer (990 or was it a 900?, 1270, 2000p) and no clogging at all. With the 2000P I got through 3 color catridges a month.

I've had a Epson 750 and I will never own another Epson again. The reason is I don't print everyday and if you let the printer sit for a few weeks you have to do a few cleanings to get it to print o.k and that wastes allot of ink. Now this is with my Epson 750 so I'm not sure about the new ones. I have a Canon 8200 and it sat here for 2 months not being used I turned it on and printed and 8x10 and it came out great. Epson is a very good printer if you print all the time. So I'm not putting Epson down I just don't like that I have to print all the time when I don't want to just to keep it from not clogging. Just my 2 cents

A few months ago there were so many wild claims of Epson clogging and problems that I refused to consider a Epson printer for anything. The price cuts of the 875D allowed me to buy this printer without much fear of buying a printer that I may have problems with. After using this printer for over 3 months I can say that the clogging issue is pretty bogus. I have done one minor cleaning prior to printing which was more to insure/confirm there was not a problem rather than there actually being one. I do turn the printer off between printing sessions. I still have my HP for everyday printing and only print with the Epson occasionally, maybe every 2 to 3 weeks, sometimes longer. There are things like the chipped cartridges (among others) that I don't like about the printer but the photo printing quality is very good.

Hi

I have owned my 890 Photo for approx. 3 months and I have never experienced clogging or other problems. I used the first 2 Epson color cartridges in record time and then decided to buy a CIS from http://www.nomorecarts.com

I ususlly do a nozzle check once a week just to check that all nozzles are firing.

I am very happy with this printer. Prints look fantastic and with the CIS I print almost for free - except for the paper of course.

Like I said: No problems so far.

When I first got my 870, it clogged on me about 5 times within the first month or so but hasn't really done it since. However, I still do a nozzle check before each printing session just to be on the safe side. I've heard someone say that the new ink that Epson is now using has caused more clogging. The best thing to do is initiate a search using the words "epson" and "clog" and read some of the experiences yourself. Some people have experienced a lot of them and some people haven't. As for the 780, I've read enough bad experiences with them here and talked to people in the stores who'd returned them that I can't recommend them.

That was the reason that held me back before i decided to buy 1280. My previous epsons (Epson stylus pro -1995, Epson Stylus 800) clogged very bad.

When I got my 1280, I installed my DIY CIS/CFS, after it settles, I ended up printing a lots, cause the ink cost is not a problem anymore and that may be why i don't have any problem with clogging again.

• I don't turn it off either, unless i'd be gone for vacation.

We also have nozzle clogging. We bought a 780 in February of this year as our first Photo printer largely on the recommendations seen here and on other digital photo web sites. The quality is 100 times better than our previous Cannon non photo color printer. I print in spurts with sometimes 1 to 2 weeks between printing sessions. I find that I have at least 1 color of the 6 with clogs each time we print after we have one of these 1 or 2 week waits. I find that I have to clean the print heads 3 to 4 times then let the printer sit overnight. (The Epson 780 owners manual recommended that sometimes an overnight "rest" after cleanings will frequently dislodge any clogs.) So now when I need anything other than a draft printing I clean one day and print the next night. Our Canon never ever clogged. I am now trying to sell the Epson. Steven1955

I purchased my first Epson based on recommendations from Steves-Digicams website, the Photostylus 780 and it was fine at first, now it clogs all the time. Clogs if I turn if off properly, clogs if I leave it on, clogs no matter what. It takes 4-5 cleaning cycles to clear the clogs, which wastes an enormous amount of ink. I will never purchase an Epson again.

The black ink on my Epson 785 clogged and it took two cleanings to unclog it. I'd let it sit for about two weeks between uses. Since then I've been using it more often (struggling to get it to print reasonable colors, without success) and it hasn't clogged. However, I'm just about ready to ditch it because I can't get it to print without a magenta cast.
