Yep, HOT's the word. Could we just not blast Andy to DEMAND that he explains it to us??? As I'm sure he will tell us how to do this...

Having said that, let me go stick my head in the freezer for a few minutes, I do need to cool down too.

This is HOT and I feel that this needs it's own thread...

Andy -- PLEASE keep us posted.... Thanx!

This is all I can find on their camcorders. If anyone has more
info, please post.

May be sony will list the proceedure on their web site if large number of owners requested it (via e.mail ?) , espicially after the criticism they recieved from various reviewers for not including a saturation option in the menue?

forget about it. Sony won´t anything, regardless what you and thousands other people will do...

Hmmm... Andy says that all Sony cameras have this feature, but that we have to wait for him to get his 707 because he needs to verify that it works on the 707. I wonder why he won't post the details for some other Sony cameras then?

I'm willing to bet that these menus are only accessible with some sort of repair mechanism plugging into some hidden socket. A "hidden menu" would not have stayed hidden for so long on other Sony digicams if one were possible without the repair facility... repair guys would talk.

If you want verification, call an Authorized Sony Service Center and ask about it.

Here is something about their TV's. Getting closer....

You have probably noticed that there is a little rectangular panel next to the Memory Stick slot on the S75, 85 and F707.

If you pop the cover on this with your finger nail take care not to break it (the panel) you will see a multi pin connector, this is the diagnostics and programming connector.

It requires the sony cable, interface and software to make any use of this connector and that is only available at factory level as far as i know.

Hopefuly this will dispel any crap about magical key combinations etc.

Kind regards.
Brian.

Sony video cameras use a device called the "RM-95" for performing service level programming on their high end DV cameras. It conects to Sony video cameras via a "LANC" connector which looks like a mini-headphone jack, only it's a little smaller. So if you see something that looks like a mini-headphone jack only a little smaller maybe it's where you would plug in the RM-95.

I´m waiting for Andy´s proposed key sequences...

As long as we have no EXACT information prooving the one or the other theory, i´ll keep digging :)

Bob,

You think of something like this:

But the Cybershots don´t implement the LANC protocol, it is told that they use the ACC (accessoire) protocol.

When i went to my local Sony Centre to get my Car Stereo repaired out of curiosity i asked if and how Sony cameras could be updated, the engineer explained that the engineering test routines sofware and hardware could be accessed through a connector in the bottom of the camera and showed me the connector on a stock camera, he did tell me he did not have the equipment to make use of the connector and though it was for factory use only.

I thought no more of it till i saw all the threads regarding hidden menu's, I will watch with great interest for the outcome of the great hidden menu mystery.

Kind Regards.

Brian,

thanks for sharing your experiences. This is another bit in the great puzzle.
The hidden connector has of course some reason, it´s not there just for fun.
I´m developing/designing microprocessor boards, I know the procedures:
  • Put all your SMDs on the pcb, solder it
  • Apply power the to board, the flashroms are still unprogrammed
  • Connect your debugger onto the debugger (AKA hidden socket) port
  • load flash programming code via debugger into RAM
  • flash application program into flashroms

You are getting warmer...

Please!!! Patience folks! Let me verify the specific procedures for the F707 before I say anything else regarding this subject.

Hey Ivo,

Thats scary stuff how many cameras have you blown up? he he! I think i'll leave all the clever stuff to the boffins and just take pictures with mine.

But I will watch with great interest for the forthcoming magic key sequence to give my camera new powers of photographic excellence, or maybe i'll just learn to use it better.

Kind Regards.

Brian.

Hi Gang:
Followed this thread through....Am I right ?

...we know where the " Sevice Port " is and the fact that a knowledgeable technician, with the right" programmer" can access the menus in camera and modify some/certain settings... BUT this is not USER available, rather it would only be available @ a service centre , or worse yet, by returning the camera to the factory i.e.) on a recall or/ service "return".

It would be neat if owners have this capability, but I doubt that is the case.In any event I would bet you could kiss your warranty goodbye if you accessed these menus and Sony God found out/or you caused some or all operations to cease.

P.s. Anyone who owns a Garmin GPS and has wandered into the "service setup area(unauthorized...supposed to be hidden) and analysis programs and subsequently "cooked" the unit knows that the GPS had to be returned to factory for reset at considerable cost...not covered by warranty...off topic ??? Relevant ???...Perhaps !
