Loire Valley - France (6 pics)

Hay Rodrigo,

Welcome :)

Thank you for your comments mate, it is a really great place isn't it and I was amazed when I saw that river... I just had to crawl down there and make some pictures. You should have seen my trousers when I got back to the car... I have since put a plastic bag in my camera bag to kneel on in future...Needless to say, my better half was less then impressed when she saw me walking back to the car with trousers like a 5 year olds ;-)

Take it easy,

Fid.
Hey Fid,

Great pictures.

I've loved the green river one :)

It's quite funny, cause we could think it's an effect, or a filter
used, but as I've been there already, I know that river looks
exactly THAAAAT green :)

Great shots.

Congrats

Rod

Hi BLV,

Yer, I think it is due to my very lightweight workflow. Actually it was just a quick conversion in Nikon View (Doesn't seem to be the best RAW to JPG conversion) and then a quick edit in the GIMP and recompressed again as JPG. I guess this is why the images are not upto scratch, but I will do some proper PP on them this weekend and hopefully have them in a state to print out.

Thanks for looking and your comments.

Fid.
Good shots, but in first photo the sky is very pixelated on my
monitor, as well as the trees in the upper left of the last photo.

Hi diabolic,

I have exactly the same opinion about the tree shot it is my favorite, but the trees just seem to be lacking something. I have had a quick go at PPing them myself and will continue to play but have also asked the advice of the PP experts on the retouch forum for some help (Here: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1006&thread=15924261 ), so hopefully I can get this image into a printable state and make one to put on the wall.

Thanks for your feedback and fingers crossed I can get that one upto printing spec :),

Some really nice well exposed and colourful shots Fid. I too like
the first and last pictures the most. I do like the row of trees
shot, Some great colour in the leaves on the floor, I wish thee
trres themselves had more colour as they look slightly washed out
compared, maybe it could be PP'ed a little

Best regards

Hello All,

Here are a few pictures I took last weekend in the Loire Valley. I
have not had time to do any serious PP on them, just a quick 2
minute job on each during lunch but wanted to share them with you.

Any advice / feedback for next time would be appreciated along with
any advice on how I should PP them would also be great.

Hi Chris,

Thank you, to be honest I think this trip was my best ever for photos. I really tried on this trip and didn't just take pictures of the first thing I saw from where I stood. I actually tried to think about things in more detail and didn't rush them. I can still many mistakes in the shots myself (Knowing what I was actually hoping for), but having so many people, such yourself, saying such nice things shows me I am getting better.

Thank you for your comments.

Fid.
Wow breathtaking shots !!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the kind words, Fid. We were there in November, I believe, so crowds were down.

Weather was wonderful. We were very fortunate that way.

The second shot, in front of Chenenceau, was manipulated, but not by cloning out people. The lion on the right was one big blown highlight, so I copied the one on the left, flipped it horizontally and placed it over the one on the right. Another image saved by Photoshop!

There are several more photos in my France gallery, which includes Loire Valley, Normandy and a little bit of Paris.

Hi David,

They are some lovely shots. It is really nice when you see other
peoples photos of places you have been yourself. You get to see how
other people saw the scene and how they recorded it. Thank you very
much.

You first image... I did want to take a picture like that one
myself but no tripods were allowed and I'm trying to stick to my
use a tripod for everything rule :) also the room was a lot darker
that day than you seemed to have had. You do seem to have been very
lucky with the number of people around. That is a great shot you
have there.

The second image is great, the colours are very vibrant. I am
amazed that it was so quiet, or is this a few exposures put
together and people cloned out?

This last one just shows the sort of weather you had, unfortunately
we had quite miserable weather most of the time I was down there,
but never the less had a wonderful visit. I spent about 45 minutes
walking around this chateau trying to find an angle to shoot it
from and ultimately I think I walked away from this one without a
nice shot. You have done a wonderful job here of finding a great
spot, was this also a laying on the ground and leaning over the
edge photo?

Thanks again for sharing your pictures.

Take care,

Fid.

WOW Great shots, I especially like #1 & 2, the green river. I'll definately have to visit France myself in the near future.

the photo are very nice, they make me want to visit there.

but the image quality is poor... the first picture's sky and the last picture's tree shows big square/pixel, that kind of image with so much detail would be at least 600k if you want to show them as fine as you got them.
