Bad eBay experience with the Camera Hunter ...

I recently bought a Bogen tripod on eBay. At the time, the seller couldn't find the quick release plate, so I had to buy it from someone else. Unfortunately I picked a guy who goes by the camera hunter on eBay. I needed the plate by the weekend, as I was going on an assignment in Chicago that weekend and needed that plate to use the tripod. I used Buy It Now to purchase the plate, and paid an extra $5 to have it shipped priority mail. I e-mailed him, letting him know the situation and that I had to have the plate ASAP. No response. I found his phone number and left a message on his voice mail. No response. I e-mailed and called once more, with no response either time.

We left the following Friday night for my assignment without the quick-release plate. Apparently it arrived on that Saturday. I was disappointed, but not upset that I didn't receive the plate in time, but I was a bit angry that he hadn't bothered to return my messages. I left him neutral feedback saying he had shipped the item quickly, but didn't return my messages. And I thought I was done with him. The same day, he leaves me negative feedback for a bogus reason. The weasel was upset that I left him neutral feedback, so he trashes mine? It doesn't seem right.

So, if anyone has the opportunity to do business with the Camera Hunter, do yourself a favor -- don't. The guy's horrible.

If anyone else has had a bad experience with him or another eBay seller, I'm sure people would like to read about it.

Hi had a problem with this guy as well. I odered a camera strap from him off of his own web page and he didnt respond to me saying the item was shipped after I had paid. A week had gone by, no strap and no word from him...I thought since he is in the USA and I am in Canada I would give him some more time. Well two weeks go by, no strap and no word from him so I e-mailed him explaining what was going on. Still no reply from him and about 4 or 5 days after that my strap finally shows up. Not once did I hear from this guy.

You are not the only one who has had a hard time with this guy..

Well,

I bought a circular polarizer from him recently (1 month back) & did not find any kind of delay, It was received well within normal time. Although I was not in any urgency.

I would say that one can often request for faster processing but can't be sure of postal delivery.

Besides that I also received an email from him to buy from his personal website as he is shifting from Ebay for their high maintaince costs & prices on his site are lower, which I found little strange as I found the lower price on his Ebay account only.

I don't have any special remarks for him but his Ebay feedback score is also good.

...and his interface is a little bit of a pain to navigate. His prices aren't what I consider good either.

I'd probably buy from him on eBay instead of his website....easier to get around!

You gave someone money before you verified they could ship within your time frame? And then had the nerve to be dissatisfied?

Ask first, pay second.

99.5% positive FB out of 17,000. He seems to be a good seller, although leaving a neg against a neutral isn't very fair. Then again, some buyers have unreasonable expectations, such as "you must respond to my communications". He also might have been annoyed if he went out of his way to expedite the shipping to get the item to the buyer asap, only to get a neutral for his efforts.

He gets a lot of positive feedback, but also a lot of negative feedback -- probably because he's a jerk.

I'd never gotten a piece of negative feedback in all the time I've been on eBay. If he would have responded to my e-mail and said, "I'll see what I can do, but I can't promise anything," I'd have been OK with it. All I wanted was a response to my message. Other than that, I was fine with the shipping time.

I sell things on eBay quite often, and whenever someone has a question or a concern, I e-mail them back ASAP. It's just common courtesy and the easiest way to keep your customers happy. There've been times when I've been unhappy with a transaction and have been able to work it out with the seller and we've both left positive feedback for one another. It's all about communication, especially on the Web.

That's what the ebay ratings are for, to post comments. I don't think we need dpreview to become a secondary place for ebay ratings do we?

I bought a non-camera item a few weeks ago - some custom jewellery for a gift and I wanted an alteration to the advertised spec which they advertised they'd be willing to do. I sent a number of e-mails and messages through eBay (starting from before I bid) and never got a single reply - so I had no idea if the alteration could/would be made. The item came within a good time frame, with my requested alteration - and I was happy with it - but had never known if it would be done - had it not been, the purchase would have been almost worthless to me as it was. The product had a little pre-printed slip in it telling me to give positive feedback and they'd do the same - 'negative or neutral feedback helps no one'.

So I left neutral feedback along the lines; "great product, very fast service, but never answered any of my messages" which I thought was a pretty fair reflection of the situation and very reasonable. I got negative along the lines of "Demanding and unreasonable buyer, do not touch under any circumstances" and then they started answering my e-mails! I got a torrent of abuse about how unreasonable I was (and too stupid to even send it to the right e-mail address - a comment he dropped when I pointed out it was sent through eBay's mail systerm, not by e-mail) and I'd damaged his business with the neutral feedback. He then left a second feedback saying I was causing him trouble and he wished he'd never heard of me - avoid at all costs!

If he'd sent one e-mail saying "yep, that would be fine, we can do that" - everyone could have been happy.

I seriously wonder how some people even stay in business - presumably he's selling on eBay, as his interpersonal skills for face to face are somewhat lacking. So us poor buyers get stuck with their charms.
