Best photo organizer?

Just wait a month or so until version 8 comes out. Also try iView, but watch out for the offline images/catalogue size issue.

Yes.. unfortunately, one of the best programs, but highly underestimated!

I agree also. I have been using it for almost 10 years now. I still have yet to learn it all. Very user friendly is what drew me to it.

Good to know I'm not the only one... ;)

I think it would help if they advertised some more and had a larger presence.. it would also help if they moved away from their newsgroup format (outdated) to a forum format for their customer support...

I cringe everytime I need to use that dnsweb thingy to look for some advice!

Getting close to 10 years with Thumbsplus here also, but still using version 4.5. It seemed to be really bloated compared to 3.x that I upgraded from, so I stopped upgrading. I have upgraded my computer a couple times since then, so I've downloaded the trial of the latest version.

There seem to be a lot of people underwhelmd by it. Some even say it would be better named Iview Media Pro 2.70 !

Not saying its not any use or any good. But the mood there seems to be that it is beta-ish and in terms of features its not a huge step forward from the 2.64 that people have now, especially when factoring in the upgrade pricing.

Yes, people are complaining on the iView forums about certain things, but as someone who is new to iView (from using iMatch and PS Elements and trying some others like Portfolio, ACDSEE, etc.), I really love iView. It is speedy, has tons of features, and the thumbnails and media views look fantastic (much better than they did in other programs - I don't know why). You can get a 15% discount by buying through affiliates such as http://www.kubotaworkshops.com , like I did.

Adobe Elements works very well for me. If I were beginning the process, I would purchase Elements 4.0.

I will be interested to see when Mario finally releases the new, more user-friendly version of iMatch. I just never enjoyed using it that much due to its UI and complexity.

As far as Elements goes, it was WAY too slow. I tried 4.0 and while it was a bit faster it was still much slower than iView.

Hi,

I also use and recommend iView but would hold off until v3.01 is released on December 1. 3 is functioning but still has enough bugs that keeps me using v2.6.5.

Pity, 3 is a substantial upgrade and I miss a lot of of its improvements. Yes it's worth the $99 upgrade.

I work for a major newspaper and process thousands of images for both online and off line print.

The lightbox feature is amazing. I cant tell you how much time it saves be being able to examine up to 4 images side by side with a real histogram and exposure warnings for each image. Taggin an image with a rating or label or deleting it all together is just a click of the mouse.

We recieve dozens of images that "appear" the same though its my job to pic the best of them. For sports canons 8fps cameras will capture many many more images then what we need - finding the best quickly is important - the rest are deleted.

No program ive tried, Portfolio, ACDsee, Imatch, is faster at previewing images.

Try the demo and learn its powerful features.

Hi,

I've been folllowing this thread and am going back and forth between IMatch and Idimager. I looked here http://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/flow-catalog-compare.html
but it pretty much says they are the same (both good).

I tried the trial of IMatch but got sidetracked before getting very far and it expired. Am waiting for a slow period to try Idimager.

Basically, I have two questions. Has anyone tried both and have any comments of one over the other. The second question is Idimager a "one man band" like IMatch? Idimager seems to be updating a little more frequently and their upgrade policy of free upgrades for one total number upgrade seems attractive. Like everyone else I keep waitnig for IMatch's next release.

Thanks in Advance,
Bob Schoner

Besides iMatch and IdImager I would also like to see ThumbsPlus Pro in the mix. All three of these are at $90 or less and seem to be much faster than PSP Album 6 or the latest Adobe PS Album. I am really trying to decide on just one and stay with it. I also have downloaded trials and then get bogged down with other things and the trial expires before I have reallly tested it.

I was too in the same situation as you not long ago. I tried both programs which have tremendous capablities, especially when one considers their price tags. For me it came down to price, support, and intuitiveness. Idimager is very affordable and most importantly, the learning curve is not too steep. If you have some concept of how these organizers work, you will be very pleased how easy Idimager is to use. And MOST importantly is the absolute tremendous support you get from the developer of the software. The developer really listens to his customers and is constantly updating the program. In fact, I had one recommendation that I understand will be incorporated in the new version coming out soon.

At first glance the interface may not be a polished as other programs, but most of us who use these organizing programs are looking for function. Frankly, I haven't tapped into half of what this program can do, so obviously there are features available that rival the most expensive programs. It also adds some nice editing features and it you like to add frames to your photos, a very nice application for doing that!

Again, I was somewhat reluctant at first to try the program, but when I gave it a chance, it provided everything I needed. The trial version is fully functional, so my recommendation is to give it a shot when you have some time.

I have used IMatch for about 3 years. It probably does have a bigger learner curve than some of the other programs. If you really want capability to do about anything with your photo database you can do it with IMatch. If you don't mind the learning curve it is a powerful program. I have 8 databases using IMatch totaling aobut 500gb.
