Three SB800s, the 85PC micro, and can you guess the camera?

...and have access to most of the current Canon gear =)

I love my D2H. I can't make myself get rid of it, even though I now have more mega pixles. I still think the D2h is better than the D2x in a lot of ways. But, if you want to take this even farther, the D100 was even a good watch camera.

D100....

D2H....

BTW my friend, I went to your site and I love your watch pictures. I just have one thing to say....If god had wanted people to wear wrist watches, he would not have given us pockets...(Ha Ha).

...and very very few, if any, modern wristwatches match them in terms of execution and finish. Shame =(

I'm still ambivalent on the D200; have ordered one as my shutter is on the blink and local repairs are expensive; however I haven't seen any sample images that have the same per-pixel 'bite' as the D2H; I might just land up biting the bullet, overhauling my D2H and getting a 300VR.

Ming,

If the image quality of the D200 is anything like that of the D2X, you will really like it with your quality glass. I imagine that your 85 will make you prints at least twice or 3 times as big as with the D2H. I have made huge prints with both the X and the H, and both look great, but when you really look at them there is no substitute for resolution. The D2h is certainly the best 4 MP ever put out...at least in half way decent light.

...lousy light is another matter. As to the D200, multiple iTTL and the 85PC...well, I'll get to find out next week. Just been told that I'm being given a prototype D200 to review for a local magazine next week, along with a 200VR or 300VR! =D

Fabulous shot, Ming! Those small flash units do have a big "punch". Must say I'm jealous of the way you were able to use them so effectively.
Lovely.

...much easier to do things like bounce flash and shoot through a diffuser with three units. Can't wait until I get my D200, then I don't have to loose my SB800 to use as the master controller=D

I'd love to know any of the details you're willing to share about the lighting setup for this picture.

I have a five-sided light box constructed of opaque white perspex; this is my diffuser. The SB800 on camera fires through the top of this; I had one SB600 to the right of the camera and firing through the side of the box. The final SB600 was about 1m right and 0.5m back of the diffuser box, and bounced vertically off the ceiling.

Flash bias - SB800 -0.7EV, SB600 at right firing through the side, + 1.3EV; the ceiling-bounced SB600, +2.3EV.

Shot with 85/2.8 PC micro and 36mm kenko extension tube; 1/250s f21.

Of course, if you haven't figured it out by now, the camera is a D2H =)

Best,
Ming
