Is there a preferred method for taling your dslr with you?

Mine was checked through Heathrow, Hong Kong, and Auckland security over a year back. It's still working fine.

Hand luggage, rather than check in, and just run it through the scanner.
My wife was 'manually' checked, as she was pregnant, and preferred that to any scanning method.
I took a LowePro Trekker out, and it had an E-1 with 2 lenses, an OM4, and 4 lenses, plus a laptop with chargers batteries and leads. No problems at all, anywhere.
