I just received my first digital camera, coolpix 885, from dell for $507. I think I got a great deal.

It looks great and pictures look good. I haven't tried to print the pictures yet, but I am sure it will be fine.

One concern though, when the camera is on auto focus mode, it makes clicking sounds constently. The quick guide states that this is normal, but it really is bothering me. Is this normal for all digital cameras, or 885 specific?

Any comments? Thank you.

CALVIN, I had the same clicking sound on my 885. It was pretty loud and really annoying. I decided to buy another one from ecost.com. The new one is much quieter than my original one, I can barely hear anything. My advice to you is to trade it in for a new one, you may have recieved a defective one. While the noise is normal on most digicams, it shouldn't be that excessive.......mike

Calvin,

If the 885 works like the 880, the camera is in continuous autofocus mode when in Auto mode when the LCD is on. The only way to use single autofocus mode when in Auto mode is to turn off the LCD. You can use either single or continuous autofocus mode when using one of the manual modes either with or without the LCD being on.

My 880 also uses continuous autofocus when using the Scene modes, and you can't turn off the LCD in Scene modes.

Your manual should explain all this somewhere.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Robert

It is normal! If you haven't owned adigital camera before you might think something is wrong. Some are louder than others. The 880 was particularly loud. It sounded like a garbage truck. My 885 is quieter but still noisy. Don't be concerned and don't waste your time returning it, unless it is so loud you can't hear the TV. I guess it is possible for one 885 to be slightly louder than another but it seems unlikely.
