Is anyone expecting a "next generation" Canon 70-200/2.8 IS in light of the overwhelming problems with error codes caused by this lens?

I did manage to wear out my IS mechanism, and I did get the error (related to energy drain, it appears) about six times, only when I was supporting the lens by the camera. In that time I took perhaps a hundred thousand frames with the beast, on six different bodies.

I don't believe in fate, but I do believe in f/8!

I've only had the lockup thing happen to me once. It's not as a big of problem as it's made out to be. For every 1 person that has a problem with the lens, there could very well be many others that don't.

However, that said, I don't deny that Canon has been having some serious QC issues as of late... Even with their L lenses. I had to sort through 3 different copies of the 35L before I found one that focused correctly (1 was even really soft wide open) and is sharp wide open.

A lens with Jean-luc picards signature on it? I don't expect another lens out...hehe

they are getting low. Replacing the lens doesn't usually fix it. Usually, but not always a power off and on restores service. Worst part is I am not usually paying attention to the camera but the shot I am tryting to take, so get frustrated when the action button is pushed and nothing happens.

It is totally random, mainly on the 10D with the 70-200 IS, but has happened with other lenses.
