Do you care how your camera looks? Do you baby it?

Are you worried 'bout scratching it? Worried 'bout getting it dirty? Worried it might get bumped?

Not me. The only thing I worry 'bout is getting it wet. And I think I'm gonna stop worrying 'bout that! I've hung off the back of speeding horses almost getting flung to the ground while in a dust cloud with it. I've scraped it against pavement in a quick move to pick it up. I've held it 6 inches from a large fire. I've climbed around with it thudding against my body. Its not that I don't care 'bout hurting it. I just don't care if it looks good. It has a few scrapes. but so far not to bad. Honestly I wouldn't care if it was dented, or lost all its paint.

Anyone else indifferent 'bout its looks? I use it as a tool. If I break it, I'd buy a new one.

Yes I baby my camera.

It cost me plenty of money and I want to make sure we spend many productive hours together. It may be tough but I don't want to risk breaking it. Unlike you I don't have limitless funds to purchase a new one.

I have two XTs...one purchased in June, the other purchased in July...and I use both. I don't rough them around intentionally but I dont baby them either. I'm also purchasing insurance on all $7000+ of my gear...just awaiting some quotes from my rep.
Nor do I. But how I see it, its not worth having something unless
you use it to 100% of its capability. 300D only costs $450 now...

LoL... 450 is money anyway...

And I babe my camera as well but I baby it my way

Scratch, it doesn't really matter as long as it won't affect the capture function of the camera

Bump, this I really aware.... Since my 300D went broken by frequently bumped on those freaking tow cars when I go uphill, and the camera was even in my camera bag.... finally got it serviced and well recovered, just some machine parts loose...

Wet, this is lens killer so just put some "dryer" in it, like those I got from food storage bag

Ima... just a... a beginner...

1st: Sony P5 (from 02)
2nd: Canon SD100 (from late 03)
3rd: Canon EOS 300D Rebel (from 05)

I agree completely.
scratches..dents...or lose its paint .."it don't matter no how".

I don't climb mountains but I carry it through the woods and shoot at work (sch. teacher) on a daily basis. I'm surprised how rugged it is.

If I drop it in the water or if a bear eats it...I'll get a new one. Exciting. Whatever I get, it will be better. Unlimited funds? No. But photography is no more expensive than the other hobbies I've had...music and golf.

Don't abuse it but don't be afraid to use it.

... through a car accident. It lives on the floor of my car without a case for 12hrs a day and has done so for the last 12mths or more. Its been wet, dropped and banged and still lives on.

Its a working camera, not that I need it for work, and how it looks has no bearing on how it works. Its not a show toy.
I take it everywhere usually just hanging from the strap around my shoulder.

It has an old, worn away, phone number scribbled in permanent marker across the bottom of it, the battery grip has more scars than a boxer. The flash cover has lost most of its silver paint and the hotshoe has been bent back into shape with some minor surgery by me.

Its not a pretty camera but it's the photos which are meant to be pretty. It keeps doing its job.

For most PC troubleshooting, a .22 will do the job.

well yes, but I am unfortunatly already pass that point since my lowepro bag zipper busted, poped open and the camera fell down on the concrete..not high enough to break it but high enough to scratch it. the camera fell on the lens and then rolled on the side and got scratched..

my Rebel 300d was pristine after 2 years.

I've got to laugh here. My 300D was scratched two days after I got it. It's been dropped from a height of about 4 feet onto concrete, dropped down a hillside, bounced off of trees and rocks, caught out in the rain, ridden around on the floor of the car, hidden under the car seat, rubbed continuously against my side for two years.

It's scratched and the paint is rubbed away here and there, but for the last two years it has never failed me through about 30,000 frames.

In the old days of my film Nikons, I would have had a heart attack with the abuse this thing has been through. I never baby it and I'm never worried about the DRebel.

I don't really care what it looks like as long as it works when I need it.
