FZ-30 on a boat

My first post here...

I am arriving from "filmworld" where batteries and power consumption were never a big issue. I am considering the purchase of an FZ-30. However, I travel overseas a good bit, (different voltages and plugs); and spend significant lengths of time on a boat, (12VDC). You can probably anticipate where I am going with this.

I understand that the DE-993 battery charger plugs "directly into the wall". I assume that means a 110VAC wall, with a US plug, (since I will be purchasing it in the US). But I understand that the charger will also accept 220VAC; so I assume that a simple plug adapter will work for an overseas wall, correct?

My question then is, has anyone had any experience with charging an FZ-30 battery from a 12VDC source, (essentially a cigaratte lighter plug) on a boat?

Now that I think about it, such a converter/adaptor should also work in an automobile -- so maybe that is a simpler question that I should have asked in the first place!

Anyway, bottom line, if anyone has any experience with the FZ-30 and any of these pieces of hardware, and/or where I might purchase them, I would greatly appreciate your assistance.

No experience with camera, but with cell phones on an inverter in the boat.

The first trip, the phone showed full charge, would last a short time. After a couple of charges, decided to measure voltages, and found that the wire from batteries to inverter was long/thin, dropping the voltage supplied to inverter.

So, first thing, check the voltages while charging. If a big boat, with good systems, you should have no problems, if a single inverter, moving it close to the batteries (I did) will solve the problem.

As for plugs and sockets just check what the outlets are and buy the adapters to fit. Traveller's stores usually have them.

Thank you very much, both Jacques and Gene. Hadn't even thought about inverters. But will now.

Also Gene, curious, have you had experience with this MR-S002 charger? Somewhere I read that different chargers have different charging "profiles", and that one should use only the charger that is designed for the specific battery, or you might ruin the battery. Do you think that this MR-S002 behaves the same as the supplied DE-993?

Further, I assume that this S002 must already contain a "mini-inverter", because of the cigarette lighter 12VDC input plug(?)

If purchased in the US or Canada, the FZ30 comes with a charger that accepts 110V and 240V AC. Simple plug adapter kit should work world-wide.

As for 12VDC in cars, boats, etc. I can't help you there.

if the voltage is the same and the current is close to the same, it won't make any -practical- difference. people have used the fz5 batts in the 30 charger, etc etc - it all works fine.

chemistry and voltage are the two big things to keep the same, and in this case, they are.
