Hi,

Does anyone have a lock up of its 20D and 17-85mm when zooming to 85mm and half pressing the shutterrelease. In the status lcd I get an error message. I have to put out the camera and turn it on again to get it working properly. It only happend two times and I cannot reconstruct the exact circumstances.

Thanks,

Peter

Be sure the electrical contacts between the body and lens are clean and also be sure that the battery's contacts are clean.

These err99s seem to be difficult to track down, but often bad electrical contact seems to be implicated.

Also, you might just unplug and re-seat the CF card once too.

To clean contacts, use a lint-free cloth or paper towel or swab or the like. If you've got a good contact conditioner solution, I'd recommend using it on these various contacts because good electrical connection is paramount.

Don't ever let anyone talk you into using an eraser or the like on your contacts. They're gold plated for a reason. Try to keep the gold intact :)

If you continue to consistently get this problem with the same lens and only when zoomed out to 85, then that seems like pretty strong evidence that the lens has a problem when zoomed to that point. If that proves to be the case, it'll be a job for Canon Service to handle.

Good luck!
