and all I can say is WOW. I know I know, I've read it way too many times how perfect E-1 is ergonomically and otherwise, but it's totally something else when you can feel it yourself. One could assume that myself never having high-end DSLR I would need several days to get used to the body etc. I think I needed something like 2 mins. It felt like that's the only camera I've ever had in my life. Shortly said fantastic.

I definitely know what camera I want, oh and the 14-54 would be a nice start.

I just have to make my case in front of my banker. I've been working on it, but so far my case has not been good enough. Hmmm .... I might have to force it sooner or later. No, I am not that type of guy. But then the camera is so fantastic that who knows ....

Well hopefully xmas comes and the store I like to use will have some nice deals going on.

Cheers to all of you happy E-1 shooters.

I got my E-1 used and I did not read the book. I just started shooting. After the 1st day I knew it was the best SLR I'd ever used.

if your "banker" needs to know that a rugged DSLR like the E-1 will out last most cameras. The other day I was shooting a waterfall and had a pretty bad fall. I was lucky, I could have cracked my head on the rocks. The E-1 was the first thing to hit the rocks and I was sure I'd finally damaged something (I'm a camera killer).

Much to my suprise, nothing appears to be wrong. Also make note that the camera was covered in mud and I rinsed it off under the mist of the waterfall.

Worst part is I never got the shot I was looking for, but here are a couple:

Get the shop to lend you the E-1. Take it to your banker, let him hold it, then he will drive you both to the shop and negotiate a group discount?

The "feel" is what swayed me over a year ago.....I had three cameras on the counter at the camera store...a Canon 10D, A Nikon D100 and the Olympus....Thank good the dealer convinced me that 5 MP is enough! The ergonomics of the E-1 blow away the others!

... the E-1 is a wasp of a camera. I was also stung at first touch. You can't get quality like this at a comparable price anywhere else. Unless you need the resolution, the E-1 is a fantastic camera. A also think the next E will be great, but more expensive.

Cheers, Seth

Thanks for the words of advice how to deal with my lovely banker. I'll keep trying and if it doesn't lead anywhere I'll just say ... "Look, are you gonna let up or do you want me to drive you crazy every day?" Somebody has to step back, right? And it's not gonna be me, well unless some other manufacturer will come with the quality at the lower price point E-1 is at right now. Highly doubt that, based on what we've seen in recent years.

highsee3:

Nice waterfalls and the sort of geyser shot in your library. I am glad that you and your camera are OK after the fall.

dbaldnz:
Nice idea, not sure about the available group discount though, but who knows.

Cheers

Andrew - very nice shots, mind sharing your settings?

Thanks,

Dan

E-1, 14-54 on a bogen tripod with acra-tech ball head.

Shot a around 14-20mm, ISO 100@ f/16 with 1/8 sec. In retrospect, I should have used f/22 or buy myself a ND filter. 1/4 of sec would have been better. (boy I wish I had ISO 50) I like to stay away from f/22. Even f/16 images take a hit in sharpness.

I shoot .jpg and expose to hold highlights. Contrast set to -2 on the camera. Sharpness 0. In photoshop I use USM at .5 between 100-150%, then resize for the web.

Really liked how E-1 looked and felt in my hands. And it was with 14-45 lens.

I had Canons for the past 2 years - D30/D60/1D/10D and I was very, very pleased with E-1 body and handling, it's just plain better.

I went into the store to try KM 7D once more, I was targeting this camera. I was comparing it with the E-1 on the spot for more than half an hour. I liked 7D feeling so much before I handled E-1, E-1 wins all ergonomics contests for me, hands down. But, 7D has much brighter and nicer viewfinder (focusing screen as well), also that nice AS. Ahh, if I could mix those two in one camera..
Anyway, E-1 handles beautifully, real little gem.

LOL

You forgot a lens 10-1000 f1.4, fully weatherproof and price and weight of 14-45, sharp like a razor at the both ends wide open ...... Now I really LOL.

I don't have one -- in fact, I haven't even received my E-1 yet! But if you do a search you'll find a lot of people who have used the Katz Eye.
