I thought for sure that Easyshare wold load a RAW file and allow it to be saved for editing as a .tiff.

I just installed verison 5.2 and it doesn't recognize RAW files on my Mac.

I would be curious to know what Kodak's update strategy is for software and firmware...

Gary, Kodak has not yet released an Easyshare update for the Mac which will handle the RAW files. As far as I know, the choices for RAW on the Mac are Ulo's dcraw compilation or Graphic Converter, which uses dcraw internally, but makes the process more convenient. Many have asked about Kodak's update strategy. I suspect there will be an Easyshare update in the future and perhaps a firmware update, though there has never been a firmware update for the DX6490.

No exactly true. Version 5.1 (79 SKU135) will load RAW images, display them and allow them to be saved to disk in .TIFF format. I actually uninstalled the latest version (released just days ago) and reloaded 5.1 just to make sure. See the screen capture here with image labeled RAW.

GraphicConverter has a TON of wonderful RAW editing tools...more than could possibly use.

My remark was somewhat sarcastic. I wasn't able to get the latest EasyShare update to even import a RAW file. I know can since reinstallingit. The latest version of Kodak EasyShare for Mac is 5.2.0.124 and is available here:

Undoubtedly.
..and perhaps a firmware update,
Guaranteed. It remains to be seen is how many of the issues Kodak P850 owners have identified here that Kodak can/will address in a firmware update and how many they will dismiss as not being within the design parameters for this model. They may really just think that the P850 does not need to have parity with previous models and hold that this model does what it was designed to do with the hardware elements they chose, which is also different from the P880.

I can't speak to that. I had my 6490 for quite awhile before I convinced Best Buy to replace it with the DX7590...there has been one update for that model as far as I know.
