I have had my Pro1 about a week now nut unfortunately have not had any good weather to go out and shoot in. I went out yesterday though and took the same shot with my new Pro1 and my old S1.

I have to say that I am dissapointed with the Pro1. Yes its better but I expected more. I guess I have to spend more time getting to know it but I'm now considering an S2 as I enjoy the long zoom and speed of operation. Will I see enough difference with the Pro1 when I am more used to it? I also admit that I'm not very skillful/experienced and maybe the Pro1 demands more effort than I want to put in. What do you guys think?

There is a difference in the pics but if you mostly view pics on a computer or make small prints it probably won't make much difference. Were you going to do a lot of cropping or make large prints it would make a difference.
Check detail in top of big tree.

I just sold a 3 months old S1 on Ebay. I got a deal on a used Panasonic FZ20. When comparing the FZ20 and S1 pics at 10x zoom there is no comparison. S1 pics are soft.

I also had the Pro1 and it wasn't my cup of tea. I have a 350D XT and the S2 and have been very happy with both camera's. Good luck and Happy Shooting.

That is pretty much my plan, Royal. The S2 is nice and fast and a neat all arounder with a ton of versatility. It doesn't try to be a DSLR, it is it's own unique thing.

did you compare the Xt at all with the D50? Seems both cameras have some very low noise levels.

The extra pixels from the Pro1 over the S1 will only be useful for large prints or heavily-cropped images. But there is a big difference in the zoom range between the Pro1 and S1/S2. The Pro1 gives you 28mm-200mm and the S1/S2 gives 38/36 mm-380/432 mm. For me, I much prefer the wide-angle 28mm (and 200mm max) of the Pro1 to the longer 36mm (and 432mm max) of the S2. But that's me, not you. And I love the fine detail available on landscapes with the Pro1.

Did you look at the pictures? There is more detail but you have to really look for it.

Tony,

I am an S2 owner who is planning to give it up for a pro1 or a Nikon D50. How much do you intend to sell your pro1 for?

IMO you will be SORRY! Build quality seems to be an attribute that is often overlooked. This camera is built like a tank and feels like it in your hands. It is my main backup to my 20D when traveling with its' great "L" lens. Its shakedown was in Russia last month and it out performed my expectations time and time again. My wife picked it up and just started shooting; about 85% were keepers!
