Hi,

I cant decide beetween these 2 camera .

I ve read many posters that don t like the s80 for :
  • his lack of raw
  • green not very accurate
  • pretty expensive for the things it gives .
  • not really a compact ... much more thick than an ixus.
but it gives a true wide angle and overall a good picture quality .

(so far, I didn t see anybody testing the s80 in low light ... the s70 has the reputation to be not very good, and i m just curious how it compares with the fuji F10)

On the other hand, the ixus is , I think, the best in his category, less expensive than the s80 and wich doesn t produce worse pictures, AND IS A REALLY COMPACT (fit in a pocket for example)

so far, I didn t see anybody complaining about the ixus ...

I' ve been waiting the s80 as the ultimate compact (compact smaller than the s70, with wide angle, and better low light capabilities) and this forum made me change my opinion ... I think I ll wait for the review and decide later ... and maybe buy an ixus by default.

I can follow your thoughs. Same here three weeks ago. But I decided for S80 because of the manual control, better image quality and wide angle. And the S80 is compact enough to fit in nearly every pocket. BTW: I can't say that the green is not accurate.

I have the S80 and the F10. They are very different cameras but both excellent in their own way. The Canon is not nearly as good in low light - you can use the Fuji at parties without flash and get great pictures! However in all other respects the canon is far superior and it has 28mm and a viewfinder which is fantastic!!

I agree completely with the previous two posts. I would advise against making a decision about your purchase just from reading opinions on this forum. If you can wait, read some professional reviews. Cnet.com has an excellent one and others will be coming soon. Handle both cameras if you can and see which one feels better in your hand. Try to take a few shots with both. Both are truly excellent cameras, but they are different. The S80 is in a class of its own with a wide angle lens and manual controls. If all you want is a great point and shoot camera with few controls and no wide angle, then you cannot do better than the Canon SD550 or Fuji F10.

I love the S80 and it's a league above the sd550... I mean if you want to spend the extra money and get the manual feature and wide angle i think it's money well spent... plus it's small enough for me and I think the greens might be a little off, but if anything it's not noticable for me, yet... good luck

ok i ll wait for the reviews ...

btw I still think that owners opinions are more useful than professionnal reviews.

when i see right now that Fuji F10 is at 320 euro and the s80 at 520, I really hope it will worth the cost ...

Hi Kraft,

I had a Fuji F10 and it is a great camera. I returned it because it does not have an optical viewfinder and I could not get used to not having one. That is my personal preference and I will never purchase another camera without a viewfinder. If you can live without that and don't care if you have a wide angle lens or lots and lots of manual controls (the F10 does have some), then by all means go ahead and buy the F10. You would be spending almost $200 more for a viewfinder, a wide angle lens and full manual controls. If that is what you want, then the S80 is worth it. If you don't need those added features, then as I wrote before either the SD550 or F10 will serve you quite well. Please keep us posted about what you decide. Thanks.

I agree completely with that last posting - personally I think many people will struggle in sunlight with any camera (however good) with only a screen. I certainly do.

I have both the S80 and SD500 and really don't have a complaint about the LCD in the sun. I don't expect great performance in the sun, but am able to operate the camera (occasionally I'll shield the LCD with the brim of my hat, but usually just to review the shot afterwards, for composition I can usually use the LCD just fine). Can't ever recall using the LCD actually, just doesn't fell right to me with a camera so small.
