Has anyone else noticed this?

Since I started using gmail early this year, there have been occasional hiccups with attachments. If I attach a word doc or excel sheet, many times the recepient doesn't get it, but it's there in my sent box with the attachment.

Recently, I've been experiencing gmail losing mails. I was on the phone to my friend who said she'd mailed me something. Nothing arrived in gmail. I asked her to send it to my yahoo account and Cc to gmail. The yahoo mail arrived promptly but after 8 hours there's no sign of it in gmail.

I've seen this happen once earlier when they were upgrading servers. I wonder if they're doing something similar now. Still, it really gives me the jitters, I'm going to move away from gmail for any serious stuff.

I've been using Gmail for 2 months now and will go back to Yahoo and POP3 soon.

I do not mind the ad placement (don't even notice it), but I do mind the Conversations. I actually hate this conversation system. I accidentally deleted important mails by deleting a "conversation". There does not seem to be a way to get away from this system and there is no way to delete individual mails which are a part os a "conversation".
Labels are good - conversations are bad.

Google, why are you trying to reinvent the wheel?
Why fix something that is working nicely for all other mail providers?
Progress and improvement is a good thing, but your improved system sucks.

what do you want for free?

Personally, I very strongly DISLIKE the conversation threading and would rather have a date based mode. I also have to wonder why they make it SO difficult to delete an email.

I like Gmail.

If you dont like the web front end you can always use Mozilla thunderbird, outlook etc via the POP server.

nothing is free.

I pay for my G-mail, because I advertise with Google. Many other users pay for ads as well, so that you and others get to use G-mail and other Google Goodies at no charge.

This is not the point though. I fully agree with your post otherwise

Nothing is free. We pay for gmail through advertising, the same way you pay for hotmail or yahoo mail, through their adverts.

Still, when comparing robustness and reliability I'm really surprised by google. Any mail sent to my yahoo mailbox reaches without delays, and I have never ever seen a mail get lost, in my years of using yahoo.

Why would you want to delete something? They have this nifty function called "Archive". I really haven't found a good reason from anyone to actually delete a message. If your argument is "I don't won't Google to have access to it" then you should read the privacy policy. The only time I thought I wasn't recieving something it was actually filtered into spam. I have never noticed lost mail and I rarely send/recieve attachments.
