Nikon D200 anybody?

There have been months of rumors, fake pictures of what it looks like, etc.

I'm hopeful that Nikon will announce a D200 and a Coolpix 8900 by November 1, but I'm also an incurable optimist!

Information posted on Ken Rockwell's Nikon site (among others), shows that Nikon filed a patend on the "D 200" name in August.

Product announcments from Nikon usually follow the name patend by six months, so it ought to be out in Spring 2006 for the photographic shows.

Those who DO know, are not talking, so any leaked details are mere guesswork by those who DON'T know at this point.

Stay calm, breathe deeply and knock off the silly postings.

yea i did a search of the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) a few months ago searching for the d200... i tried to post this information for people to see, but only ken rockwell posted the information with confidence. They trademarked the term in July, some people predict the announcement as soon as November... but Nikon tradition will place the announcement around Christmas time or early January 06.

The D200 IS coming and it will beat the socks off many pro DSLRS hands down. The question lies in when it will be announced.

When it will be delivered?
and
how much it costs?

Well yeah

It is more speculation than anything else but i know some people that frequent the forums actually have credible information. So I am wondering if I should get a new camera or wait for this one to come out.

Also some people actually have tight budgets so it is a serious decision you know. In any case would be nice to find out more about the new features so if anybody "knows" anything it is still interesting info to read.

You say that "the D200 will beat the socks off many DSLRS".

Tell us how? Do you have the top secret info that no one esle has and that we're all eager to learn? Or are you just blowin' wind?

Hmm?

also most of my friends actually have Canon and they keep talking about how much better it is than Nikon. I am just getting into photography so I am not sure which way to go. And once you start buying gear from one company you want to stick with that provider for portability issues. So you Nikon guys tell me how I can make my Cannon friends shut up.

Well

from the looks of it it is basically an upgraded version of the D100 as far built quality it is better. However, the sensor is the same size, more noise for another 2 million pixels? I am afraid Nikon have been cuaght u p the hype about more is better. not true. I would rather go with the Canon 5D even if $3200. So go with the d50 I say much more bang for your buck

Sorry, probably a very stupid question.

Cropping to me means taking something away. So how can the result of a crop be 100% of what it was cropped from? If I take away 100% of something, there should be nothing left.

With abject apologies. ;-)

Well you see... he's actually cropped the images so that what is left is 100% of the camera's native resolution. i.e. no rezising, only cropping, unlike the top pictures which are resized but not cropped.
