I found this on Microsoft download site, use at your own risk.

1. Overview

The Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet for Windows XP adds a new 'Color' item to the Windows control panel, providing a single place to view and edit color management settings in Windows XP. Using it, you can install and uninstall color profiles, change color profile associations for displays, printers and scanners, view detailed properties for color profiles (including a 3D rendering of the color space gamut), and rename color profiles, keeping the filenames and "internal" names consistent.

In addition, this tool enables Windows to automatically adjust the gamut curve of the display when a color profile containing gamut table information is set as the default profile for the display. Typically, such profiles are created by custom monitor calibration tools, such as those available from ColorVision, GretagMacbeth, and X-Rite. If a color profile has this information, it is shown with an asterisk ( ) in the user interface.

Note: We've taken care to ensure that this tool operates as it should, but it is not part of Windows and is not supported by Microsoft. For this reason, Microsoft Technical Support is unable to answer questions about the Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet for Windows XP.

Hmm, interesting. I think I'll let someone else test it before I try installing it, though.

Same for me, XP SP2 + .NET 1.1 and it won't open - I do have 2 ATI Graphics cards and 3 x LCD's - I wonder if thats the problem.

also MS Sync Toy crashes asking to be debugged because of a CLR Error.

Maybe its time for a re-install.... oh I hope not...

Doesnt seem to want to open for me either. I know there is nothing wrong with my system.

I have an Ati card as well (x800xl) latest drivers. Maybe it doesnt like the card.

Add another "won't open". Considering that I do .NET development and my software works I doub't it's that.

It installed and works fine here with XP SP2 and an older ATI Radeon card.

Other than that, I don’t see what the great advantage is of having it installed since everything was working fine already.

Nand.

Doesn't open here either. Also an ATI card. I'd guess there's a compatibility problem with some ATI cards/drivers.

I also downloaded and installed Win XP SP2 plus .NET Framework 1.1, ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Series Display Adapter (the latest PCI Express from Radeon): Will not open

My problems were that it insisted on
re-downloading dotnetefex althoughthe correct version had been installed before.
After I gave the permission to redownload and reinstall everything worked fine.

I have an nvidia 5700-based card, and it won't open for me, either, so it's not ATI-specific.

Works fine here:

P4 3.0 / Intel mobo
Win XP-Pro SP2
Matrox 550

This is a very definite move forward for MS! I suspect they will resolve the install problems asap. I did read on the Rob Galbraith that a buggy version was released and then quickly replaced on Friday. There's a recommendation to re-download and reinstall what's there now.

fwiw my version says "Version 1 (Build 1.0.176.0)"

The new one works for me, so I must have had the "buggy" release originally.

The original build of the applet had a file that didn't have a strong name signature on it and was preventing the app from running. This was something that slipped by in the release process and we apologize for the inconvenience. We did catch it within a few hours and updated the files, but the propogation to our server farms worldwide was delayed so some people were still downloading the very first bits.

We've actually gone ahead and updated the build to ensure that people are getting the proper bits, and the propogation looks to be complete. If you click on the 'About Windows Color' link, the new version is 1.0.177.0

I'm glad to see you are up and running smoothly. Please feel free to ping me with questions.

Thanks,

The same thing happened to me. Use the control panel to delete it and reload it. My second attempt worked fine. This has happened to two other people I know. Good luck.

We have updated the build to ensure that everyone has the proper version and this has been propogated to all of our servers worldwide. I appreciate your post and that you went through the remove/install process.

Thanks,

yes, download this!

i have waited over a decade for this feature in windows, and am so thrilled its the greatest lil piece since xp was released. to actually have some type of reliable all-in-one control for all my devices (monitors, scanners, cameras, printers, etc on my machine) is a massive sigh of relief, and getting the new cnaon 5d today adds to it.

certainly makes up for (being in wpb) the other lossess and lack-ofs down here after the storm.

thanks microsoft for finally getting it together for the digital arts people....hopefully people will begin realizing the concept of color calibration because i have to struggle explaining it to clients every day, when they think im just being 'a perfectionist' and think all colors on anything is fine.

"well why would they hide such an important thing under windows/system32/spool/drivers/color then" theyd say...
