Any idea of D200 price?

I was about to post the same question.

Here in the Netherlands somebody very close to the fire mentioned between ERU 2000 and EUR 2500....depends on what deal they can make with Nikon Japan they say. My guess is that US prices will be much lower,...you lucky people! ;-)
I was about to post the same question.

Well, if Nikon wants to stay directly competitive with Canon, they need a "filler body" in the $1499 (US) price range.

The D70/D70S is NOT that body, but the D200 could be. If Nikon sells the D200 for $1999 (US) it will still sell well among working pros, but the big bucks will come from advanced amatuer sales ... if they can get the street price down to around $1499.

$500 doesn't sound like much, but I guarantee that Canon has another DSLR challenger coming soon (replacement for the 20D in the $1499 price range) that will compete directly against the D200.

If Nikon does sell the D200 for $1999, then I hope the rumors about a D90 are true ... because Nikon has a sizeable gap between the $900 and $2000 price points.

Again, Nikon will probably sell the body for $1999 (US), but they would KILL Canon if they sold the body for $1499 and the body with 18-200mm VR "kit lens" for $1999.

I suspect the 18-200 VR will sell in the $599-$699 range (unless Nikon decides to compete with the non-stabilized 18-200mm lenses from Sigma and Tamron). So Nikon would have a killer value package on the table if it sold the D200 with 18-200mm VR kit for $1999.

20D replacement will level D200 (at least resolutionwise)

So we dutch are fu....
1999 euro is a good price...
But 500 euro more ( I can do a lot of nice things with the 500 euro).....;-)

What does Nikon have at the $2000 price point?

and 2200 € with the 18-200 VR...in France and maybe in the other european countries.

Don't complain, here in South Africa it will be about EUR 4000.

Still about USD 2000 less than a D2X, mind you !

I may have to fly to B&H to get one ! How about a 8000 mile (one way) day-trip to the USA ? Would still save money, though.

Yes 1700 $. A direct conversion would give 1500€. But generally the actual price in France is higher than such a direct conversion...so a price of 1700€ could be a good estimation.

The specs of D200 on this site are wrong.

if Nikon believes their new AF system is comparable to that of D2X
$2499

if they believe it's worse, but just say it's comparable
$2299

if they admit it's a low price gimmick
$1999

if Nikon needs to shake the field and deliver some serious punches to makers other than canon
$1799

what i think most likely
$2499 + a lot of rebates when purchasing vert grip, new lens, etc.

Canon makes killer products, but Nikon makes solid cameras.
