Since reading all the posts on selling the E-10 to help finance the E-20, I'm wondering - How much do you really expect to sell it for and where? I went to my local high-end photography shop and they won't even consider taking in a used digital.

Hi, if you are interested in selling your E-10 soon, please email me with details.

Thanks

Did you ask them why they "won't even consider" taking in a used digital for sale? I'm curious as to what the camera shop's reasoning is for this, since they then turn around and expect us to pay thousands for the newest one........but then, what....it's worth zip after a few months?? We must all be nuts. K.

I'm in the market for a digital camera; just been to local electronic superstore to demo and inspect few digital cameras. The price of E-10 was marked at 30-40% below MSRP, which makes me to seriously consider this model.

If a store offered a demo unit with further price reduction, I would offer not more than 65% of current selling price.

I would never consider digital camera with memory stick, nor point-and-shot type with micro size lens, regardless of price.

Local camera shops and big chains do not have the expertise & enoughtraffic to handle used or trade-in cameras. The big citys like NY dealers that have the traffic and can handle testing usedcameras and Finincial ability to keep it on the shelf till it sells. In NY there is a consumer law that a store has to sell a Demo any thing for at least 10% off.

The best always,

If you can find a store that will buy a used digital from you, the rule of thumb for all used cameras applies: You should expect to get about 50% of the "current" retail price of the camera. The store will then turn around and resell it for about 2/3 the retail value (if it is in mint condition). The problem with digital cameras and the reason why most camera stores will not rebuy them used is the rapidly changing technology and the short commercial life of any model. New models are being introduced at the rate of every 6-9 months and with just enough improvement on the older models to make them practically unsellable because of their rapid "appaearence" of devaluation. Just watch what is going to happen to the E-10 once the E-20 hits the shelves. Since Oly will (or has already) stopped producing E-10's, stores will be discounting their remaining stocks to make way for the E-20. It will be difficult to sell your E-10 at a reasonable price because of the availability of heavily discounted new E-10s. The E-20 will be selling new for probably the same price that you bought your E-10 a year ago. So what do you think your E-10 is worth? :-)

My advice would be to hold onto your E-10 at least until a "really" improved version, say E-30, comes out in a year from now. I don't think the E-20 is worth the financial bite it will cost you to "upgrade".

Go to Ebay and do a search on completed auctions for the E-10. Most of the E-10s that have sold are either refurbs (90 day warranty) or new ones, but I believe there are a few used ones that you can compare. I would guess, without having looked in a while, that you could get around $1,100 for a used E-10 in very good condition.

If you end up selling on Ebay, you will boost the bid by having lots of positive feedback. If you don't have an account, I would suggest getting a friend who does to help you sell it. Otherwise, as a new seller, you're unlikely to get too high bids b/c some people won't trust you so the number of bidders interested in your auction will go down. In general, I find Ebay a very good place to sell used digital cameras. Lots of interested buyers, and sometimes, used equipment goes for close to the new retail price.

$1.100? I found a on-line store (and a reputable one, according to the poster) wich had the E-10 on a sale for $1.300. Too bad I forgot the URL :(
(It was in NY, and I think it had digits in it's name :Þ)
