F10 Auto ISO Question

Perhaps I read the manual wrong, but I thought that when I put it in Auto ISO, it would max out at ISO 800. And to get to ISO1600, you need to set it there manually. However, I seem to be getting shots with an ISO of 1250??? I really don't want the camera to go above 800, as that's all the noise that I can handle.

Is the only way for me to prevent it from going over 800 is to set the ISO manually?

thx in advance,

The camera really shouldn't go to 1250 since it's not an option. But then I never really have to bother since I ALWAYS manually set the ISO because it too quickly goes to ISO800 on its own - a major downfall of the camera.

It can also use iso 1000 at times so the auto iso range appears to extend to at least 1250.

If fact I believe the auto iso range in the F10 many well extend all the way to 1600. In the s5600 and s9500 auto iso tops out at 800, and this is confirmed in that in AB and NL modes the highest iso available is 800. 1600 is only available when manually selected. Whereas in the F10 NL mode uses up to 1600

Auto iso ranges do NOT have to stick to the user defined manual range steps, and don't in many cameras. (some cameras do)

I had the camera in manual mode, so I could set the exposure compensation to -1/3. with the ISO set to Auto.

So- does that mean that the Auto ISO is capped at 800 when in Auto mode, but is allowed to go to 1600 when in the scene or manual modes?

Great camera- but a firmware upgrade would be really handy.

For me, never set ISO to Auto. Set it to 400 for indoor, 100 for outdoor. Never go over 400.

If you set it to Auto, the camear always using the hight ISO, that not what I want.

I'm not an expert, I can't say how it's supposed to work, but...

My F10 never exceeds ISO800 in M mode which is what I use 99% of the time. The "night mode" I use from time to time allows higher than ISO800 if the exposure time gets too long, but only if "long exposure" isn't enabled in which case it tops out at 200. "NL mode" appears to freely allow ISO1600. I don't use any other modes so I haven't checked.

I as well as others have witnessed the F10 use iso 1000 in auto mode, auto iso, when useing the flash,. so it can and will on some occasions push past 800.
Great camera- but a firmware upgrade would be really handy.

Maybe the flash behaviour is different (I never use flash). I've tried my damndest to get it to go higher than 800 in auto/M - without flash of course - and it won't. I wonder if there's more than one version of software around that may be causing the different behaviour we each see? There was a version released to fix a few language glitches, maybe it changed other things as well. Mine has the current version.
