recommended all-round lens

I forgot when exactly, but it was on the Sigma website stating it would be out sometime early next year I think.

I rate this lens highly but it may be out of the budget you have mentioned? I have it and I am very happy with it.

People seem to forget about Tokina and their 24-200 for some reason which I cannot understand. They are built like a tank and offer some decent qualiity for a superzoom. Yes, they're heavy, but IMO it's only plus.

Yes, the Tamron 18-200 is a great lens. Iam very satisfied with it, too

The "Swiss Army Knife" carry around lens solution of 18-200mm interests me but only if I don't have to sacrifice too much quality to do it.

I've seen reviews of the Sigma & Tamron with the nod going to Sigma but of course Sigma didn't come with a Minolta mount. Of course KM is bringing out a 18-200. Is that out yet? What's the timing on that?

I'm certainly interested but I would have to do my homework to decide which if any of those three will be added to my lens collection.

List price $499 - 15% = 424.15 - Coupon $DF97G9KXSNJWW ($35.00) = $391.15

Plus, 0% interest till 2007 (if qulaified)

Good till Wednesday.

Be aware Dell says ships in 1-2 weeks. That could mean just about anything, but if you have patience, it's a great price.

Not sure of qulaity, but the thing that ultimately stopped my looking to an 18-200 is the sluggish 6.3 aperture at the long end. The 18-125 is only a little better at 5.6, but it seems with the 7D's AF, every little helps. Perhpas this is less imprtant if the AF on the 5D is better.

Cheers!

I htink it;s possibly because with the crop factor, 24mm just isn't so wide? I certainly fealt this with the KM 24-105D.... which is why I shuffled it off in favour of the 18-125. Some sacrifice on quality (not disastrous though) for a much more pleasing wide end :)

Cheers!

I think this is the best of both worlds. (24-105 D and 100-300 APO D) And it is what I am planning on getting. I have the 18-70 kit lens and a 2nd generation 75-300 now. As much as I would like having a 2.8 28-75, it is just not enough at the wide end OR the long end. When I walk around with the kit lens, I always wish for just a bit more at the long end and while the 18mm on the wide end is really great on the lit lens, I think I can live with the 24. Plus the 24-105 is a faster lens than the kit so it should be an upgrade no? I mean the kit lens is pretty sharp at f8 and I am guessing the 24-105 should be the same or maybe better?

The last lens to add is the KM 100 2.8 macro....3 lenses and I will have it all covered:)
The combination of Minolta 24-105 D and 100-300 APO D covers
similar range. However, both lens combination will be over $500
(about $700?).
I want zoomlens for Maxxum 7d, perhaps from 28 - 200 - what lens
for about 400$ do you recommend? or... what 2 lenses that cover the
same area (or maybe up to 300) do you recommend for about the same
price (total) (or perhaps i'd let it cost at most 500$ for 2
lenses).

Thanx in advance!

I just checked:

http://www.photozone.de/active/survey/querylenstxt.jsp?filter=%22brand= 'Minolta%20AF'%20OR%20brand='Sigma%20AF'%20OR%20brand='Tamron%20AF'%20or%20brand='Tokina%20AF'%20or%20brand='Vivitar%20AF'%22

And the review was pretty bad for the Sigma 18-125.

Does anyone know where they compare the KM 24-105 with the SIgma 18-125?

If you are on a budget.

Get 17-35mm G & 70-200mm SSM G D if you have the dough.
