because of some reasons i am asking myself,
if there are other firmware versions in FZ30 out there
My Exif shows
FirmwareVersion = 0.1.0.16

does anyone have an higher number ?

i am programming since over 20 years
and since 5 years i work with PERL
(Practical Extraction and Reporting Language) http://cpan.org
(perl is useful for interactive websites)

its free and endless modules with functions are avaible for free.
one of them is the "ExifTool"
yesterday i downloaded the newest version,
it contains the update for reading FZ30 "makernotes"

sorry, no solution for the not-programmer.
you have to install the full perl version and learn programming

maybe i find a workaround in the future
but i think, other software with an easy Interface is avaible soon, if not yet.

mine is the same: 0.1.0.16.

by the way for all who use linux:

in debian i only had to install the package libimage-exiftool-perl (Version 5.55-1 was enough) and than type
exiftool picture-file

Thanks Michael for the tip. I used exiftags, but this software did not display all informations like denoise-level etc.

Michael

in most cases, PERL is installed with nearly every LINUX distribution
sorry, i have forgot to mention it before, because most users
use expensive windows to view the world ;-)
--

i have heard, the new OS X is based on Linux
and contains PERL.

but now i am at my end of knowledge about operating systems ...
(i doesnt have to know everything ;-)

there's no FW version info nor nearly as much as your shot had...
Try this original
http://www.pbase.com/rrawzz/image/49115475/original

I think you ran one of the PBase compressed downsized 800x600 images which looks to be all but exif-less...

wonder if mine can be brought up to date to yours?? And what if any improvements that might mean???
FirmwareVersion = 0.1.0.7
Would be older or newer than yours???
it seems, pana does updates, my version is 0.1.0.16

16 is higher
maybe, the difference is only the choosen area for sales
( its possible to adapt software to the expected average user )

Does that mean that you have a LATER FW version, or that my EXIF viewer rounded off? Mine was an early serial number, it's possible there was a factory upgrade?

if python can do better...
So is Python "Anthing Perl can do Python can do better" [grin] n/t
i have installed python, because paintshop pro uses it for scripts,
but i never worked with it. - possible no need because perl does a lot ?

the decision for perl was made becaue it is installed on most webservers,

and i am tired from learning new languages, because the "hype" is now PHP,ASP,XML or anything else.

PERL is old and works.
like my car from '89

sometimes you have to modify firmware, because
a tiny liitle part (maybe a resistor with a certain value)
is no more avaible.

the programmer uses a new version number, but their maybe only a difference in internal calculations, without improvements.

for larger steps in development you increase a position more to the left in the numbers, for instance 1.0.0.0 instead of 0.8.15 or 0.0.7 ;-)
--

in my EXIF section:
Software = Ver.1.0
in my MAKERNOTES section
FirmwareVersion = 0.1.0.16

believe, that you have read the software version

EXIF section dont changes very much over time, though most older programms can read them

MAKERNOTES section - here the manufacturer can do what he want
you need a special FZ30 reader for makernotes
