Moon Shots-Post here

Under the sun... Well since you brought it up. ;)

This is a full disk solar image taken through a Celestron 8 (80" 2032 mm efl.) telescope, 1/125 sec. exposure and full aperture solar filter. I couldn't pass up shooting the sunspots.

Well here's one thru a Celestron C-8 tonight (2,000mm f/10, equivalent to 4,000mm on Four-Thirds mount) - E-300, ISO-200, 1/400sec then stretched the contrast.

I still haven't been able to get out and take a moon shot, but I recalled that I did do this last month. So here is a C7070 moon shot. The camera was afocally mounted to a 1000mm f/10 Rubinar lens using a TeleVue 32mm Plossl eyepiece.

The C7070 is an excellent to very good camera for afocal coupling.

The linked image is 1/4 rez, but you can find half and full-rez image here:

Where have you been hiding my friend?

Sorry to hear about the clouds. We were fortunate to have a break after 5 days of rain and catch the full moon and now we are back to several more days of rain. I can relate! LOL

Yes, there are some great shots and great info. Now to find a telescope! :)

Thanks for dropping in!

...But I have of a stone ball outside the Lockhart, Texas, public library while I was waiting for my truck to be serviced.

Sorry about that Drummer, and my apologies to everyone else. I just couldn't resist.

I love to see the moon against the blue sky. It is a beautiful sight! Thanks for posting this one Pat. It rounds out this set of pictures nicely.

John, How did you get a picture of Jupiter's moon Io. That must be some piece of glass you have.

Thanks for this one. It gave me a wondeful laugh on a rather boring, rainy autumn night.

That is a really nice handheld shot WH. Thanks for posting. If the rain clears I might get a few more before it's gone.

Keep shooting the moon!

Jay - excellent shot! Wondering how you coupled the 7070 to the scope; are u using TeleVue's adapter (iirc works only with some of their eyepieces) or some other mount? fwiw I have a lens tube adapter on my 7070 with 55mm threaded front (can be stepped down of course), and have been looking to get it to mount on a tele-extender (M42 T-thread) - or some other less cumbersome way to mount it afocally.

What you need is a T-Mount to filter thread adapter ring. Mine is a T> 52mm for the 5060. I'm sure T> 55mm will be just as easily available. This enables you to shoot afocal through the telescope eyepiece using a standard T-Mount camera to telescope adapter. My submission above was not taken using such a ring. The camera was on a bracket and looking through the eyepiece. It was however, what prompted me to get one.....!
