Hello everyone. * stands* My name is Daivd, and I now own a Digital Rebel Xt 350. Thank you. takes seat

I am curious what everyone chose as their "next step" lens? I'm looking at a Sigma or a Quantaray 55-200mm Telephoto. I'm hoping that using both the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm, will give me the ranges I'm used to. I would like to do some landscape shots but mostly portrait types. Any suggestions?
happy shooting..:)

Hi David,

You'll get as many opinons as there are lenses out there! I'd spend a lot of time on http://www.Pbase.com doing a search on the photos taken by various lenses so you can get an idea of how good the lenses are.

The Canon 50mm F1.8 is a VERY inexpensive lense that does a GREAT job for a small price.

You can visit my galleries where you can see samples from several different lenses. (see link below) No expensive glass in my collection.

My favorite all around lens is the Tamron 18-200mm. It's not a Canon "L" series, top quality lens, but for my use it's great. It does require the use of a flash inside, and I use the Canon 420EX flash with a Stoffen Omnibounce attached. I have the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 and it's sharper than the 18-200 so I often use it as well.

Good luck on your shopping!

Sandy

God gave us an incredible world. Touch it, taste it, smell it, PHOTOGRAPH IT!

but then I started using the lens at or near its sweet spot of F8-F10. Also, I got to learning post processing a bit better. It's still not a great lens, but it has grown on me, and for the price, what the heck.

Beauty is in the eye of the photographer

My kit lens is excellent; no complaints at all.

If you have a good copy, just use it at f8 for sharp results.

Also, if you are not proficient with postprocessing yet, it is well worth your effort.

Great photos come more from learning composition and having a "good" eye. The equipment matters too to a certain extent, but the kit lens has proven itself to be capable of fantastic photographs. Just find some of Daniella's landscapes.

Regards,

jgb
