For those who live in Dallas who have taken cameras to the Dallas Stars games, will they allow the 20D ito be taken in.

We are going to the game tonight, have good seats would love to take the 20D but worried about security allowing (as they call it a professional) camera into the center. I see many with point and shoot cameras at the games.

Feedback appreciated :)

this might not matter. but I'm here in south florida. and the american airlines areana in miami did let me bring mine in one time. what i did was clal them up the day before the game and told them what I had. now the strange thing is the hockey areana won't let you bring in any SLRs. I should go buy a PRO1 and take just as good of shots and then sell them on ebay. haha

Hi, Marv,

The American Airlines Center Web site says:

"Restrictions on the use of still and video cameras vary by event. The event producer determines this policy. Some sporting events permit still cameras without flash, but not recording devices. Concerts typically do not permit any cameras or recording devices (audio or video). Guests should contact an American Airlines Center representative at 214-222-3687 to find out the policy prior to the event."

I would assume that it is the Dallas Stars magagement that really makes the call here. I wasn't able to find anything on their site.

Doug

I took my 20d to the San Jose sharks game on Saturday.

I carried the camera in my hand through the gate and handed my backpack to the security guy to check. It wasnt a problem for me in fact I didnt even consider it. I'm sure the people checking the tickets dont care anyway.

Hi, Marv,

I just spoke with Cheryl Hawker (sp?), Assistant to the president of the Dallas Stars about their camera poilicy. Her first take was that any kind of still camera would be allowed - no video cameras.

But she talked to the guy who reallly knows on his cell phone, and he said for one thing no flash. Also, no "long lenses". I said, of course, but what does that mean. She said they are likley to prohibit "any camera where the lens can be changed" - said that was their practical way to avoid "long lenses".

Sorry that's the best I can do.

Enjoy the game!

Best regards,

Doug

I wish I had a longer zoom lens to put in my backpack.

I have the 17-85mm lens on my 20d. I just got my 20d with this lens a couple of weeks ago so this dslr thing is new to me. I'm already itchen to buy another lens though. I'm going to the San Jose State football game this Saturday so hopefully i'll get some good shots to post.

I think the main thing is luck of the draw. If the security person you go thru knows the rules and is willing to inforce them then I guess your in trouble. When I went thru it really seemed like the guy could care less. I actually had the camera in my hand when I walked thru so maybe he was more focused on my bag rather than what was in my hand.

At the shark tank (san jose arena), the policy does seem to vary per event. lI've seen signs posted at Sharks games that lenses 6 inches or less are fine. I haven't taken my 20d to a sharks game since I'm up top and my fast lens is only 28-75. I have taken it to the Harlem Globetrotters and women's basketball.

Earlier this year at the womens Pac-10 basketball playoff, I was allowed to bring the 20d in for the early rounds, but they changed their policy for the finals to only point and shoot cameras. I couldn't talk my way in to the arena even with th 28-75 lens. This was a NCAA rule (as per the sign and discussion).

Hopefully I'll bring the 20d for a lacrosse game early next year.

I would hate having to walk back to my car if it was the second parking lot after rt 120.

I might try it at the next Devils game with my 200mm in my pocket and just the 20d with a cap on it.
