I have a Olympus C2000 Zoom and is a pretty cool camera, but i think it still a little big to carry on holidays.

Would you trade it for a Canon IXUS 300 ???

I can't speak about the Olympus but I recently bought the IXUS 300 for a trip to Japan (web-site diary/gallery to soon follow) and I loved it. Of course, the small point-n-shoot nature of the 300 means that it really needs bright daylight for the best shots but the size is what I bought it for. I wasn't expecting awesome pictures under adverse conditions with this unit.

The flash falls off very quickly but the movie mode is cool and really adds to the camera. I had a couple of 128Mb CF cards and limited myself to 1024x768 res images so I had room for plenty of shots - in the end I came away with a touch over 130Mb of pics and movies over a 2 week period.

If you plan on taking pics at night, use a tripod or find a surface to put the camera on and use the timer. Under low-light conditions you'll get lots of blur if you don't.

Anyway, keep an eye out on here and I'll post the address for my gallery - should be in the next few days.

Hey Lalopes:

I can't really tell you if u should trade in ur olympus since i haven't owned one b4.. but wat i could say is in regards to the s300. I've had my s300 for a month already and yes.. i really love it. It's small.. i can carry it anywhere and even sneak it in places that i may normally not be able to(my sister wanted to take pictures when she was in spain but for some reason security guards in the mall wouldn't let her). I can also take pictures of ppl without them knowing by just taking it out of my jean's pocket.. turn on(very fast boot up).. turn off flash(make sure there's enough lighting) and just shoot. Here's a list of somethings i like and don't like about this camera:

like:

1. Very small not quite as small as the s100(DON'T CONSIDER THIS CAMERA!) or s110(QUality way better than the s100) but still small.

2. Fast.. very fast.. the only thing that slows it down is when u're trying to focus(i bet all digicams need as much, if not more, time to focus)

3. Quality is .. not quite excellent but very good when taking pictures in well lit places.. I'm not trying to say that flash pics are bad.. it's just that since the flash is pretty weak for this camera.. u really need to pic the right place to shoot indoors especially when it's lit by tungusent lights(gives pics orange cast).

4. I dun really think the 3x zoom power really got me into buying this but yes.. it does come in handy sometimes.

5. Noise levels arn't that bad.. way better than the s100(i owned it for two days then returned it cuz of the colours it produced)

NOT LIKE:

1. Battery power(u'll need to buy maybe two more battery packs for dis camera if u're going on vacation shooting all day).

2. PRICE(at this price u could chip in an additional 50 to 100 dollars and u'd be able to get a 3mp camera)

3. FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS.. yes.. it's a a little better than the s100 and G1 in terms of focusing.. but it still makes mistakes.. for example.. i was trying to take a pic of my friend one time and the pic was TOTALLY out of focus.. why? he had dark skin and was wearing black.. he was on the left of the picture.. so the camera decided to focus on the silver car wayyy behind him. So here's the tip.. try to aim the camera at the thing or person u're trying to focus on .. lock.. and then recompose.

5. Problems in heavily ariticial lighted rooms.. i noticed a small and strong orange cast from time to time when taking pictures of my dog in my computer room.. but that's only in this room..(cuz it's soo heavily lit with the tungusent bulbs).

There are a lot more i'd like to list but this post is getting long.. feel free to ask more if u'd like.. i check my threads everyday after school.

Here's just some tips of u decide to buy the camera..

1. remember to practice shooting.. try to buy the camera a month b4 u take it on vacation and KEEP SHOOTING.. u'll learn it's faults and strenghts.. i can say that i'm getting very good pictures now all because i've taken over a 1000 shots in less than a month.. it helped me learn how to read the LCD correctly(i'll know when i have an out of focus picture now or an over exposed pic).

2. When shooting ppl or objects that have low contrast.. try to aim at something wiht high contrast tha's the same distance as the object u want to be in focus .. lock then recompose.. (my s300 loves to focus on the CARPET than my dog.. so i aim the AF LAMP(it shoots out a white beam) at my dog's BLUE shiny colar tag.. then recompose.)..

Sorry.. i'm going on and on.. better stop here.. as i have learned soo much from this forum.. here's a phrase passed onto me by the wonderful ppl here that help each other out ... "U won't be able to find a perfect camera.. u just have to buy one that suits ur needs.. and KEEP SHOOTING to learn it's strenghts and weaknesses"..
