Ok, I did a search through the forums and couldn't find an answer. I ordered a 4GB Microdrive the other day (because I've read that it would work with no problem) and ended up receiving a 6GB instead.

I have a D100 with version 2 firmware. When I insert the card, I get the error CHA (or CHR - hard to tell on the LCD). The error is showing up where the picture count normally is. I have reformatted the drive as FAT32 on my iMac, but still get the error.
Anyone else experience this?

Thanks!

When I bought my D100 with a 1 GB MicroDrive I had the same. MD was defective. I got a new one that worked fine.

I actually tried reformatting with the camera and it still gives me the same error.

I don't think that it is defective, it works fine on other devices.

"Cards can not be formatted using a Macintosh computer."

Guess I'll try it on my PC tonight.

Let us know what happens.

I have seen in a few places that 4GB was the maximum size for a D100.

just to remind everyone - 'only format in the camera' is a qualified best practice. it is not a maxim.

many cameras, particularly earlier models, work better with cards formatted in the camera. this is a best practice for most DSLRs to avoid read/write issues.

however, you should not always format in the camera. camera's perform Quick format and not a Full format. Full format is required to scan the media for bad sectors and appropriately mark the FAT to skip these. Full format can only be done on the computer and should be done regularly -- i recommend every 30 days for heavy users. if you have a camera that seems not to like a card formatted in your PC, you can then re-re-format in the camera (ie after the PC format is finished) before initial use.

sorry, but i can't address the Mac formatting issue. i've got one but i just use it for simple graphics work so the poor thing doesn't get confused and pop a transistor. ;) ...dav
