Here it is. From a friend in Woodbury NY.

The new uzy will be considered an entry level and have the retain the c ranking but number change to c2180. It will be a 4.1 pixel and retain the 10x zoom. All other features remain the same and the camera will still look the same, however with a casing similar to the C700.

Initial cost in US will be $880 begining Nov.

That's an aweful big prediction. It'll be interesting to see if your friend is right. I would hope that they improved more than just the CCD on this camera.

IF, this is true, and that's a big if, you would think they would retain the IS if they keep the name close to the 2100. If they would be doing a non IS lens, then you'd think they'd name it more like the C900, after the C700 or something. But if they are making it more like the body of the C700, I'm not sure how they would make IS work in a smaller frame. Hmmmm....

Casing same as C700 - does that mean no IS?

I believe that Oly only licensed the Canon IS lens for a limited time... so any new version would likely have a different lens.... and the lens MAKES this camera!

Now that wouldn't be a new UZI would it? That sounds more like an upgrade to the C700.

clarification: the casing will mean the plastic will be replaced with the same material as the c700, not that it will be the same size.

If they keep the same lens and use the CCD and software improvements that were announced for the D40, that would be a nice upgrade. The CCD listed for the D-40 is 1/1.8" it would be nice to have a 1/2" version.

It's really quite improbable that Oly will come up with a new version of the C2100 UZ.

The c700UZ took it's place and there is no room for any inside competition. Face it now, This will be the camera for them to upgrade . With good light most amateurs are able to use the 10X zoom with acceptable results even without image stabilization. Forget the b300 unless you tripod it.

The IS is nice to have and works superbly, but apparently the c700 is doing Ok without it. Picture quality is close too.

Oly isn't interested in making us UZI owners any happier than we already are. They are interested in selling small P+S digital cameras that sell very well. And why not? This is just what appeals to the masses. Looks like the UZI didn't. Why else would they discount it so much and then delete it from production.

I know it's tough to swallow but let's face it. Oly can do better in other areas of camera sales instead of catering to a niche of zoomers wanting IS with it.

For those looking for something more like the UZI, keep tuned to Canon .I think there is a much better chance they will improve on their Pro 90, than Oly pulling a trick out of their bag. It's Canon's nice 10X,IS lens to begin with, and this just might be the camera to plan on for upgrading. Not a bad thing either. The CF memory system will be better suited for more pixels when and if the improvements comes.

That's really to bad. In my opinon the 2100 has much better image quality and gives much more consistant results than the Canon....I owned both.

Personaly I rather they just left the uzi alone and move on to
different and better ideas. Dont get me wrong I love my uzi
but I would love to be resparked by a new product, plus i am a little tired

of the match game comparing to is one thing but to say new uzi, wich there will never be another, simply because what ever they make will be what it is and the uzi will still be at that time what it is or was what ever the case may be.I would love to own a new techno, special addition, gold
model new and improved camera but my uzi has and still is teaching me alot
to prepare myself to ready for the new addition to my collection.
Thanks to all of you uzinites i have been to school on digital cameras.
I have even learned a few camera politics.what ever camera I chose i hope
that this group will continue.

By my understanding, 1/1.8 is bigger than 1/2. Why would it be
nice to have a smaller CCD?
Oops, you're right, it is bigger, I was confusing 2 different cameras....

I guess that makes the CCD a bit too big for the current lens, they would have to mask it like the one on the pro90.

I just saw the specs for the E-20, no IS but otherwise pretty impressive.

This could be why Olympus are no longer licensing the existing lens :-)
Maybe there's a new lens for the new CCD - like Sony had to do.

I do hope they don't ditch the IS concept.
