I just purchased an eFilm Pop-up shade LCD protector for around $40. Anyone have any experience with this? Good idea? Bad idea? The problem I encounter is when the pop-up cover is open you can't get too close to the view finder. You have to close the cover to get your eye close enough to take a picture. A bit of a hassle.

I just bought the E300 and the eFilm LCD protector to keep the LCD monitor from getting scratched when I carry the camera around my neck. I was considering putting those clear, adhesive strips on the LCD, but I thought that might not be a good idea. I also have a Canon PowerShot G3 and I really like the swivel LCD that closes when you're not using it.

This is my 1st SLR camera, and I chose it over the Rebel XT.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It's a personal thing, I think. Placing a protective film over the LCD may help save it from scratches, but it also interferes with viewing the image. I've not experienced any scratches on mine in the past 6 months. Handle with care.

I use the Optex clear screen protectors...in my case it was to stop nose prints on the screen because I'm left-eyed...I never had a problem with scratched screen on my C-700, but like my C-700 I keep my camera in a form fitting case (CS3-SH for the E-300).

I have CrogFol clear protectors on both LCDs on my E-1. Even though it has a very solid clip on plastic screen anyway. Judging by the scratches on the plastic cover, I'm glad I have the extra protection.

I'd get a 'sticky film' cover, if nothing else?

Thanks Tim,

I probably made a mistake in purchasing that efilm LCD protector. Perhaps those adhesive film strips that cover the LCD monitor are the best way to go.

Although the eFilm shade does a good job at protecting the LCD, it's main job is to shade the display so you can see it in bright sunlight.

So Mike,

Would you recommend shooting with this efilm attachment or not? It seems to me like I'd have to close the cover everytime I want to shoot. Then open it again to change settings. More hassle than it's worth?

Things are a little tight with the 40-150, but it still works. It also has pockets for extra memory, and the RM-1 remote.

As well, I have the LSC-0918 case to store my 40-150, or my 14-45 when the other lens is on the camera.

Some people like using generic SLR bags that hold everything, but I like the the separate cases and just tossing everything into my backup.

To be candid, I was thinking about getting on of these devices, but when reading the issues about having to flip the screen open to view the control panel, close it to shoot, and then open it again to view the image I just shot, it's just too much hassle; I'll just stick with the sticky plastic! ;-)

Yeah Mike,

I think I'll take mine back and try to get credit toward that Oly fitted bag. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I'm glad my experience has helped you with your decision.

I use a Hoodman DSLR2.
Crystal Clear and a perfect fit.
About 25 dollars.

Other people complained about the price but the screen is much more important than the 25 bucks.

Thanks,

Is this a plastic attachment that fits over the LCD screen? Is is made specifically for the E300?

How about the Oly da protector. It is a hard acrylic shield that protects the LCD screen .It is not permanent and is a whopping 6 bucks It adheres with little adhesive strips and is worth the 6 dollars. I got one for my Panasonic FZ10 AFTER the LCD screen cracked. It fell off my luggage while it was in my camera case. I couldn't part with it to send it away and it was a very costly repair soooo I researched and found this gem. I would never go without it. I learned my lesson. http://www.daproducts.com They are great to do business with.

I am thinking about getting either Hoodman or 'da protector. Do both of the protectors stick to the LCD panel permanently? I will probably get the one that can be easily taken off with no damage to the screen.
