G2 portraits?

Hey Romie, I'd rather not bombard Susan with a ton of calls..how about just filling us in...huh? Thanks

G1 users, like myself, will have new options as well. (I think I'll
let her explain). "Get a grip!" :)
I have one, yes, but I haven't used it. In fact, I haven't even
put the LensMate on my new camera yet. Wish the thing was chrome
instead of black... gonna look weird on my G2.

She told me they'll announce it on their web site when they're ready...

...Let's just say Bryan's G2 can soon be color coordinated with a "new" LensMate and if G1 owners have a hard time "gripping" their cameras, they won't have to for long.

Longer zooms help, but even those camera's give more depth of field
than an equivalent 35mm SLR simply because the CCD is smaller.
Check out the Canon D30, for example, that uses a much larger CMOS
sensor - depth of field is much smaller - hence, the photos look
more film-like and it's easier to blur the background for portraits.

Check out the first picture - portrait of my daughter taken with Pro90IS at full zoom (370mm). I was about 10-12 feet away, cannot remember exactly but it was effortless compared to similar attempt with a P&S style I had before - Sony S85. I had done a similar shot with S85 and had to be a couple feet away and it did not look as good.

The next two of flowers are also done from a distance of several feet away.

Picture 9 should also be of interest for those that like portraits.

Even look at Picture 16 - it has a slightly shallow DOF and I didn't really try to take the picture like this, it just turned out that way!

My point is, if you want to do portraits the P&S style camera with small zoom is not gonna cut it unless you add lenses, but if I had to keep changing lenses I would have missed some of the shots I take! The Pro90IS has built-in 10x optical zoom that allows to change from one extreme to another very quickly!

Hope the Pro95IS comes out soon!
Thanks to those posting G2 samples!
Does anyone have some nice portraits to post? You know, normal
head-shots?
I'd like to see some samples showing depth of field, colours,
sharpness, detail,...

Thanks!

OOps, I meant picture 17 instead of 16 that has the whallow DOF I was talking about (although 16 is still not bad on the left side which shows shallower DOF)

Thanks, Bryan!

Great shots! Nice, natural colours and very sharp. Impressive!

I would wish for slighly shallower depth of field, though, but that's of course due to the G2's small CCD, as others have pointed out.

Thanks again.

Hope I did OK... these were from this afternoon, just posted on the
web. Most of these were taken at the camera defaults in P-mode,
with forced fill-in flash (thus, the slight bluish tinge to them).
I should've messed with white balance, but didn't have time.

Here's the link:

Thanks.

Hola Bill, JRS!

Thanks a lot for samples + comments, this does indeed show what I hoped to see regarding depth of field.

JRS, don't tell me you've got a G2 there in Puerto Banus...? 8-)

(San Miguel si, G2 no)
I think if you get the G2 and the 1.5X converter or an after-market
2X converter, you should have no problem getting that shallow depth-
of-field that you require for your portraits.
I uploaded two pictures (with and without Tiffen teleconverter) to
compare dof. I was only 2 feet 8 inches away from the subject, so
that changes the dof from a normal portrait, but hopefully it will
show the difference.
Bill,

I think you have shown our friend in Madrid what I saying and,
hopefully, what he wanted to see.

Cameras & Cocktails......(with a Pepsi mixer, of course)
