Which 1.4xTC for 70-200 f/4?

I have some situations where I would like to carry the small and compact 70-200 f/4 but would like a little more reach. Rather than haul my 100-400L, I think a TC would do the trick.

Please let me know if my understanding is wrong, but I believe that the AF on the 70-200 will only work with a 1.4xTC.

Is there really much difference between the Canon, Kenko, and Tamron TCs? Which one did you get?

thanks,
Jeremy

thank you for posting those TC samples. It is very clear that the Kenko is superior to the Tamron. I think that has helped me make my decision. I noticed that the text said you were using the 70-200 f/2.8? Is that right? Are the results the same if you shoot wide open?

Thanks for the links and information, it is very helpful. Just for clarification, will all the 1.4x TC's AF on my 70-200 f/4?

The Tamron may be a bad copy, but I don't really need 2 TCs so I will keep the Kenko since it appears to be a good one. I do agree Danellia that your copy looks good, and in fact that is one reason I got that one in the first place.

For your lens, 400 f5.6 L, the Tamron would be best to allow AF without taping pins, but with an f4 lens I prefer having correct EXIF, etc.

the Kenko pro definitly is of better quality. too bad it cannot work so well with F5.6 lens of I would use that one.

yes it's an anoyance not to see the correct focal length and aperture in the exif :(
