WOW!...I had to go back 19 pages to find any listing for the transcend digital album. Isn't anyone using one. I've only had mine for 10 days but it seems to be one of the better choices. The screen is very good. Movies and jpeg's play as advertised and now version 1.3 supports xd picture card. Photos and movies look great on TV too. Small size, $299, and "in stock". What more could you ask for? Am I missing something?
Why are so few people using them?

--Hang in there Art. I know they're supporting the product with upgrades. I think RAW support is on the way. You know, the DA will still store RAW, and display a thumbnail of the RAW image. It just won't display the full image yet. Also interesting to note that TIFF and MPEG1 is not suppost to play, but they do on my unit. Actually, the digital album has played everything I've loaded so far, including TIFF. I don't have RAW, but I'd like to try it just to see if it works.

Keep checking the site for upgraded software. Hopefully version 1.4 will support RAW. I think it's very likely that it will.

I wish they would upgrade the firmware to 10.4 for macs. I am having a nighmare dumping images. Other than that I have had no issues with the unit. Great size, dumps highspeeed cards quickly!!! Battery life is good.

Hi, Kurt!

I also interested in DA because of its size and battery life.. I almost always shoot RAW with my Canon DRebel.. so it would be useless to purchase the one that can only view JPEG.. Can you confirm that DA can read the embedded JPEG from Canon RAW? How they produce the thumbnail?

Thanks!

--I don't have any Canon cameras so I can't confirm that it will show the Jpeq from your RAW image, but I'm fairly sure it would. I do not know how they show RAW thumbnails, I suppose you would have to contact transcend and talk to tech support for that question.

Sooner or later, they will "wake up" and support RAW. I don't think they can compete without doing that.

Hm, my DA does not display TIFF.

What firmware version do you have?
In previous posts you mention version 1.4.
My came with 1.5 already in it (the latest one).

The release note for 1.5 states, among other things, "Fix unsupported movie still can play" - maybe the new firmware doesn't have "undocumented" support any more ... ;)

--Interesting...I have also updated to version 1.5, and now it appears that I can no longer display TIFF's. I'm using more than one camera so I need to check to make sure, but it doesn't sound like much of an "upgrade" to me.

I wish they would use their time creating something useful, like RAW support, instead of fixing things that weren't broke to begin with.

--Hi Art,

I did exactly that about a month ago. They said "no way", and were actually quite rude about it.

It's a good thing I was talking to some tech support peasant, instead of someone that will actually make a business decision, such as supporting RAW.

I'm quite certain that RAW support will indeed be added sometime in the future, although it will come from a software engineer, not some idiot that gets paid to answer the phone.

--Well, I assume it was deleted when v1.5 was loaded. I certainly don't have it anywhere on disc and it's not in the digital album file.

It's probably interesting to note that I never tried tiff's from my Panasonic fz20, but it did display tiff's from my trusty ol' Olympus C2100. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I was hoping that you have upgraded from 1.3 to 1.4 and that you still might have the file somewhere.

I managed to download 1.3 from the transcend's site (dafw13.pak), but could not find the 1.4 (dafw14.pak).
I'll try nosing around a bit more :)

Not really if you did not try it. The point is that it did show some tiff and now it doesn't.

Mine will no longer recognize my USB connection. Was fine until this week. Anyone have ideas on how to deal with it. I did a reset.Thnx
