Clarity of 70-200 F4 vs 70-200 F/2.8 on 20D

Now that's some good and useful information!!! Thanks!

I still want the 2.8 IS and when I can afford it (perhaps sell a kidney (kidding...)), I'll get one. But, I see that the f4 with the TC seems to rock, so, looks like that's what I'll be doing, and continue to save. 6 months of use (or more, depending on how things go), isn't too bad for the $100 loss I could take. I'd think of it as sort of a rental fee :) From what I've seen on FleaBay (I mean, eBay, sorry), they're selling used ones (f4's)for literally full retail and getting it!!!

I just realzed something...

Looking at the specs as provided by B&H, the f4 model is only 1/56 lbs!!!! I can't believe it - my 24-70L is a whopping 2.1 lbs. I wonder what's in the 24-70 that makes it so much more expensive and heavy (well, glass, I guess).

I see that the 2.8 non-IS model is 2.8 lbs. Looks like if I get the f4 model for a while ('til I can afford the IS) the weight sure won't be an issue since I carry around my 24-70L as my walkaround lens, anyway!

The f/4L is a very lightweight lens and that's one of its big advantages. The photo quality is stunning so if you don't need the extra stop, save $1000 and your back and get the f/4. I only sold mine because I found a great deal on the 80-200/2.8L.

What about looking at the Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 ? About 650-750 bucks on the net. I dont' think there's IS built in, but AF is. Great bang for the buck from what I can tell.

Another concern that I just now thought of is that fact that
using a TC on the f/4 would effectively kill autofocus, right!?
Not at all.
AF is still plenty fast and the sharpness does not suffer (using a good TC).
