Now my W1’s battery compartment’s Locks are broken! I don’t know how

Never dropped and never forced and damage is only one sided no damages to body .I called Sony but no warranty for that .I know they can only give $$$ bill. Now what can I do with camera without Power .I am considering some cheap hobby to adopt. If I got chance to get another camera it won’t be Sony really very bad experience. Or may be I will be powering it with tripod screwed into it to hold batteries in place
Any bright Ideas?????
How much I loved my w1 and sony but now its totally opposite
but evrything which starts has an end ;-(

Sorry to hear it.

I can remember thinking how flimsy (compared to the V1) the door to the memory socket was, at the time we got ours, but so far, we have been lucky.

I had not thought of the battery cover being flimsy, but I will now be a bit paranoid about it ...

I dropped my wife's Kodak digital about six years ago and broke open the battery compartment so that it wouldn't stay closed and the camera couldn't power up. We just wrapped some strong tape over it and it worked like a charm.

Hi,

if you still have the door, fix it really with a duct tape. As you need to put the batteries out to charge them, this is not the best solution.

If the door's still in its hinges, why not to use an elastic band over the whole camera, where it will not affect the controls?

Or yes, find a mechanician who will make a metal (or plastic) "cover holder"

If theres no door or its damaged, you can make a replacement with plastic&metal piece, fixed to the tripod mount (as it is close to the battery compartment, it should work good). But beware of the tripod mount, if it is plastic, try to use plastic screw as well.

Anyway, go on! There are more serious failures that can occur!

It would be bad to see no more of your pics posted!!!

You should go on ebay, and buy a W1 that is broken. Theey're not that hard to find. Then, you can use the broken one for spare parts and fix your battery door.

Ouch that's a real pity. Isn't there a way to make the latches from a piece of plastic and using an melting device like a soldering (don't know the right word but it is for tinning parts like transistors and so) thing to put for example two pieces of metal (nails or a small plate of iron on the latch so that it stays in places?

Also there are quite often cheap dropped cameras for sale on sites like ebay so maybe there you can find a replacement. Anyway it's a shame to see you without a camera I really like to look at your pictures.

Wasn't there a thread a couple of weeks ago that had a link to a place that sell's spare parts for Sony camera's? I did see something like that not so long ago. I will try and see if I can find it back for you.

Awais,

I just got another idea. In case you can't fix it why not get yourself a simple seperate batteryholder that can hold the batteries, connect a powercord to it with an 2 pole miniplug at the end. On the camera connect a plus and minus wire to the corresponding connectors and drill a hole in the bottom of your batterylatch. connect a female conector in this hole (these are the ones that you can screw in place whit a little nut) connect the wires to it in the proper + - setting (best use the inside as + and outside as minus as they stick out and glue or tape the latch in place. This way you have a camera that functions, an easy way to change batteries and most important you still can make those nice pictures you do.

If the batteries are not attached you hardly will notice the plug and you have still a small package when not in use.

I know it is not as nice as the original but it will keep you going until you get a new camera!

Do you have duct tape? Just tape it closed for now. Poor you. I feel bad for you. Sony has good products but their service stinks!

I agree with DemeterBig, make a plate (metal or plastic) the size of the bottom of the camera and secure it to the base with a screw that attaches to the tripod threads. This would work until something better comes along.

Online Buying or selling is not practical for me !! i think i shall consider tripod method to seal battry i have one mini tripod it is working fine
now the problem remains about which i am worried alot
"How to tell Dad" he wont buy next cam for me lol

Manfrotto also makes a "low profile" plate.

Or buy a short 1/4x20 screw (preferrably stainless), and a SS washer.

ps. Sorry to hear the news. You know I'm a big fan.

This might be an opportunity to get a 717 though (if you can get the bid in before Bruce!!)
