First, although I live about 60 miles from the closest incident that occurred yesterday, The actions of a few who worked for evil have affcted all of us. It was very heartening that those of you thousands of miles away, both what some would call "common citizens" and leaders alike were as moved as those "lose in". We all thank you and appreciate your concern and would like you to know we will survive. Remember also, what man does for evil; GOD frequetly uses for good in the end.

Now the message:

I have been reading and rereading some of the recent comments and would like to state the following.

1. I love this forum
2. I have learned much from it.
3. I hope to have helped a few.
4. In the past, I worked for over 10 years in photography as my profession.
5. I have been involved in photography for 35 years one way or another.

6. I have an IQ greater than 140; but the spelling ability of a 6th or 7th grader and my typing ability is about the same (what a mess without a spell checker).

7. I have worked in firefighting and EMS for several decades (EMS As a paramedic for over 22 years).

I'm now done with the "I haves" they were given only to show that I am qualified to make a few statements on professionalism.

My wife suggested the following with her comment that I seemed to really enjoy this forum up to very recently when I became upset with someone who missed the point and criticized another who was attempting to help someone.

In the future I will answer questions, and critiques, make comments, Ask questions, and so on; but I will do my best to let untoward comments, criticisms, and castigations be ignored and go unanswered.

If I fail, please remind me.

Sincerely,

Ray

Good for you Ray.

I am also trying to stay out of that web.

I learned a long time ago a very important message: "Consider the source, and forget it."

Ray,

As a "young" 54-year-old who's also been dabbling in photography since I was a boy of 11 (My first camera was a Kodak Brownie Box Camera plus flash!), I agree with you 100%.

Wisdom comes with age, in particular the wisdom to understand that sometimes we all make (verbal) mistakes, and when others do, the most sympathetic response is to say nothing.

However if the speaker has been knowingly arrogant and offensive, the most effective "put down" is also to say nothing.

And by saying nothing, one doesn't have to bother to try telling the difference!

This is the first web forum in which I have participated, and again like you, I have been encouraged, and humbled, by the friendliness and helpfulness of the other members.

Regards,

Robin [Redbreast]

Paul - That's such good advise. There is so much positive in this forum, and it would be a shame to focus our time and attention on the small negatives. 99% of the forum members and posters offer constructive information. I will try and remember your advise and focus on that.

Ray: Stick it out. I too, have the need for spell-check. I sincerely hope that I was not the one who insulted you. I would like to add that if all of us agreed, it would make for a boring world. That's what forums are about, so please keep reducing your thoughts to font.

Steve,

Sorry, if I failed to make clear my concerns, that first I personally was not insulted (I would not have lasted a month in Emergency Medical Services if were easily affected by others comments) but I am unwilling to allow those who attempt to prove the inferiorty of others to make themselves look better. I feel that since the goal of this forum is to assist each of us to improve their photographis capibilities the following are unimportant (along with many others) status of piad or unpaid (you may be either and be professional), physical ability or disability (unless someone needs ideas or assistance to get a photo), level of training in photography (except when answering a question), years and type of expirience (again except when needed to answer a question). I'm sure this list can be greatly expanded, but it should be enough to see where I'm headed.

That is why I intend to ignore (by not acknowledging it) any highly critical, demeaning or other posts that attempt to lesson anothers (individual or group) value [However, I reserve the right to defend myself and others hopefully in a kind manor]. I plan to participate in discussions, make suggestions and comments, and ask questions. But, I hope to do so without insulting, demeaning or castigating any person or group. If I fail at this please remind me. If that happens I hope to be a decent enough person to apologize.

RJ you have raised the bar for the rest of us!

Goodness me I do hope that I haven't upset fellow forum members in the way that I personally dealt with this issue. I agree with everything that has been said in this thread so far and, normally, I will try to ignore the kind of behaviour we are discussing an will continue to do so. But when others cross over the line and attack someone because of a disability (as happened to Nick) I will find it very difficult to keep quiet.

If I have upset anyone or gone over the top in any thread I can only apologise and try to do better

Cassandra
Cassandra,

Thank you, that was my goal. But remember it's [the bar] raised for me also!!! I wrote 3 "nasties" but did not post (It's not that I'm that great I believe GOD was presenting blocks until I calmed [2 ambulance runs and a computer lock-up] ).

AJaye,

Look at the originator(s). I am attempting to remind us all (myself first) that we have a great forum. I also bleirve, we would like to keep everyone with us that wants to contribute.

Everyone "loses it" on occaision and if we ignore it (or at least answer with kindness) perhaps we can outlast their tirade and regain a useful member; or in lue of that, if they have nothing constructive or useful perhaps they will leave without causing a great deal of consternation and without taking others with them.

I have seen other groups split [and some die] for similar reasons. A friend tells me that over a disagreement of $1000 on a budget of several hundred thousand dollars his church split into 2 small churches and many refused to speak with members of the other church. This is why I am suggesting we all ease up.

PS I also would have defended other members but others did a more than adequate job. So my comments were not needed. But now is time te reconcile.
