Hello all,

I just thought I would share some great news with you! For anyone who plans to buy any new gear soon -- Read This First!!!

I bought my Canon G1 thru my favorite local camera store with an American Express Blue Card (AMEX). I paid full price - 799.00. I found the lowest price on the net for the G1 at Regency(usually Grey market) -$579.00.

I then filed a claim with AMEX's "Best Value Guarentee" (1-800-557-8317).
I faxed them a copy of my receipt and the add from Regency.

I just received my check for the difference of $220.00 from AMEX. Thus, I got the best of both worlds. The absolute lowest price (at the time) and a local dealer who I trust will take care of me if I have any problems with the camera! Plus AMEX doubles your manufacturer warranty and gives you six months no interest on your first purchases;-() Wow. I thought it was too good to be true. But with check in hand I now know AMEX is the way to go.

I found this AMEX info on other forums. I hope this helps you save $$$ as it certainly did me.

Regency now has it listed for $549.00. Ha, that price is hard to beat! What a great price for the g1, even if the new g2 is coming out soon(rumors only). I love this camera!!!

I did the price match using BLUE AMEX a month ago, they sent me the check in two weeks, and when the price online dropped one more time, they sent me another check!

You can buy it online from a store that takes AMEX. I have heard of several people in this forum who have done this. Do a search under AMEX to see more.

I don't think the policy has changed much in one month. But if it was my $$, I would call them to verify their policy. This is exactly what I did when I saw someone elses "Older" post.

Thanks a bunch Derek. I will make the call to be sure. The G2 looks pretty good. What do you think? I would have bought the G1 but I entered the game late and am now shopping around for my first digital camera. Been using my buddy's Sony and like it, but Canon has a lot of features I like. How is your G1 doing? I'll bet you love it. Hey, I think you are right about Bubba's Mama...I think her real name is Mrs. Bubba.

Jeff,

I am having the greatest time with my G1- I have been taking pictures like a nut since I got it. You see, my wife and I just had our first child and I am a very proud dad. This is also my first digital. So the picture taking options seem almost limitless.

Anyway, if I were you right now and had the choice and the extra $$ I think I would buy the G2. And if 'BUBBA' got one, shoot why shouldn't I get one too!!!

But if I had limited resources and wanted a great Camera at a great price I would still buy the G1. The good thing is with AMEX you can wait up to 60 days before submitting your lowest price. I think the G2 is at its highest price point right now, but will drop as time goes on.

Either way you get an awesome camera. Let us know how it goes.

Derek...thanks so much for all your help. What a wonderful photo...just priceless. I see a lot of Dad in Juniors face. A very good looking child, I bet you are a proud Papa. Now that is what these cameras are all about. Hey, is that the ocean behind you? I'll bet you get some nice sunsets. We do too...here in New Mexico. I'll keep you posted. By the way, how do I post a photo like you did? I have a nice photo of one of my 4-legged friends. Thanks again Derek. Jeff

Jeff,

Thanks for the compliments on the pic. Hey, I hear New Mexico has some awesome sunsets. I am just starting to shoot them with the G1 myself. I will show you how to post. Then send one accross when you get a chance.

First you must register here(easy).

Second, go to a great photo album site like pbase.com(one of the best IMHO) and set up an account(no charge). Upload some pics. Then just reference the address in the body of your text> > > and Add " .JPG" to the end of it(not in quotes of coarse).
Here are a couple more California sunsets

Try it out. I got relatives in New Mexico, but I have never been there. I'd like to visit/Ski Toas.

Hi,

What exactly did you do. How to get the price match form. How can
I reach regency. How to get their printed add. Thanks a lot!

Li
Your first step is to get the AMEX blue card. You can't do anything until you get the card in the mail, so start now and apply online or over the phone.

Li, you can use the Internet for most of this. Look up American Express's web site. Then go to their diffrent cards> find the blue card> apply.

Call AMEX's "Best Value Guarentee" (1-800-557-8317) for more specific details.

Go to mysimon.com and do a search for the lowes price- Usually regency. Print the price. It is pretty easy really.

Start by Getting the card> Go from there.
