Does anyone know if the Panasonic FZ5 is compatible with the iPod camera connector? It´s not on the list provided by Apple... They say:

"This list represents only cameras currently tested by Apple, and does not include all cameras that are supported. The iPod Camera Connector works with digital cameras that support the following transfer protocols: Mass Storage, PTP, and Type 4 (sometimes referred to as "Normal"). Please consult the documentation included with your digital camera to verify support."

Can anyone tell me if the FZ5 is compatible, or where I can find it?

Try to locate online the manual in PDF format. You'll probably find it on the manufacturer's website under support. Or try looking on http://www.crutchfield.com (find your device, then click on the tab called something like more detail). When the pdf file opens with the manual, use the search/find mechanism within the pdf file and type in, one at a time, Mass Storage, PTP, and Type 4 and let it search for these words. This is how I was able to determine that my Canon G5 and my husband's sony should work with the camera connector. I tried looking in the hard copy version of the manual, but missed it.

Hope that helps

I posted this thread, because I wondered whether it would works with my Fuji S602,which isn't on that list of supported cameras either...

I went to the biggest Apple retailer in Sydney and asked them if I could tried it with my camera before buy...We connected all together and it didn't work...Then I realized,SW ver. MUST be 1.1 and after that update it worked! So...just go and do the same thing..However,I am sure that it will work with your camera, since it isn't such an old piece,or is it ? :)

for $370; the 60 gb one. Brand new, in sealed box. Waiting for delivery. If you look for one on e-bay, check the apple site for the mftr #; make sure you bid on one with that number or post a question to the seller to specify the #. On the apple site, I think you have to put one in your shopping cart before the mftr # shows up. for some reason, there are a bunch of them on e-bay.

Hi,

I still haven't bought the Apple Ipod camera connector.. So I can't help you! (I haven't been on vacation this year, so there was no need for me to buy one yet. I figured I could better wait till I really need one, maybe by that time there are better devices...)

I just got a 60Gb iPod and the Apple connector.

I expected it to work with the A80, since the A70 and A85 were listed as compatible on their web.

I was surprised that it worked with the Fuji 4900Z, an Oct.2000 vintage camera (and predecessor to 602, incidentally).

The Apple Store Geek said iPods have a collection of protocols (and occasional firmware upgrades will add to those). I assume Fuji's USB protocol has not changed much since its inception...

You're right, testing is always best. I had a few tense moments at home until I realized, the iPod connector seemed to want the camera powered up before plugging in.

Despite negative comments about the iPod, it beats taking the laptop on vacation...
