I know a crop is probably in order for this pic, but curious on suggenstions or examples of what can be done with this pic of my daughter. I'm playing around with Gimp and dont even know where to begin.

Not really much I see to change. Maybe others will do some art transformations or borders.

What a lovely daughter you have there. What is her name? You must
call her Angel. She's such a sweety. Thanks for letting us work on
her photo.

I did a dry brush oil painting. I left the crop where I thought it
was most interesting. I think the colors and frame go well
together. I hope you like it.
Thanks so much for the compliment, Her name is Gwen and she will be turning 2 this december. She is such a joy to have around.

Thanks for the try at editing the photo. I have so many shots I've taken of her and some could definately use some touchups here and there. There is so much talent on this board. I'd love to be able to pick up some of these skills.

...you can do a poor man's white balance by clicking, using the color picker, her lower right (on your left side) white star (use the brightest appendage) and create a fill layer with that color. Set the layer property to divide. Now you will need to do some noise cleanup (I used NeatImage). I then re-opened the image into GIMP and did NL sharpening (NL is under the Enhance filter menu). Done. Much more work could be done; just lazy tonight. :)

...that I copied the result over the original NeatImage cleaned version and erased just her outline (didn't want the noise from NL filtering to show up in the wall-paper). :)

That's what children should be, a joy. Since my wife passed I live here with my daughter, son-in-law and two grand-daughters. So you see I have three joys in my life. After 73 years I believe I have the answer of what life is all about. The first is love . . . the second is children. GB you and your family. ;^)

not much, just noise reduction with noise ninja -> unsharp mask -> cooling filter in photoshop.

It lost some detail but gain clearity. just shrink (resize) it!!

Al,

This is a really nice oil painting and you certainly did a great job!
