I have a D2X and I love it. Its best Nikon camera so far.

Nikon needs to improve on the following.
  • GIVE US MORE DINAMIC RANGE
  • Reduce ISO noise, D2X great at 100, bad at 400 and above
  • Give me more HIGH ISO that is usable
  • Make NC faster, much faster please
  • Make a 64 bit version of NC and N View
  • include NC free, it is required to get the best out of NEF
When u have a better sensor for the D2x, make it available for D2x owners, do not force me to buy a new camera body to get a new sensor

Make some good professional fixed F4 zoom lens, as good as the 12-24mm
  • 18-100mm F4 AFS VR
  • 50-200mm F4 AFS VR
Thats what I need!

I do not need FF or more Megapixels.

Please tell Nikon what you expect they do to improve your photos

I am doing nothing wrong.

I just wish for Nikon to improve noise. I love to take available light pictures, spent a lot on fast lenses and would love to see Nikon improve the noise and dinamic range much more then go FF or give me more MP.

yeah, keep dreaming, hehe... I would love to see a Nikon DSLR with interchangeable backs too... but since they're never going to make that, I would settle for a cheaper D2X... that's all... if they lower the price to $3,500 I'd be happy. Or a cheaper D2Hs - If I remember right, B&H lowered the price of the D2H to $1,200 before the D2Hs came out, I wish they'd do the same for the D2Hs now :)

If they can't make a full frame and all these other things we wish for, how about lowering the prices a little bit... don't make us buy a new 5K camera every few years! I bet they would make up for the price difference with volume.

A solid aliance with Fuji just to have the best CCD avaliable on the market on a pro DSLR.

Some DX lens ..... like a 55-180 2.8 DX VR

S2, S3, 60micro 2.8D , 17-55 DX, 24-120 VR ,
70-300ED ,sb800, Metz 45 cl4, Lexar 4gb , 2gb , 2gb , 1gb

Do nice pictures and tell us how you have done ;)
enjoy making and sharing it

Noice in D2X...I have thoroghly checked out this alledged problem with high iso-noice. There can be a lot of noice even at ISO 200, and the pictures can be virtually noicefree at ISO 400. What is important is E X P O S U R E. Not ISO. If you fail to expose right, the camera will punish you with a lot of noice. That said, I must admit that life was easier with D100. But the reward for correct exposure and a steady hand is formidable!

As for high iso, well i rarely shoot above 800, if you expose right youll be fine up to 800.

Regarding the Dynamic range ? do you compare to film ? yes then i can understand. But if you refering to image resources numbers welll what can i say....read the fineprint...

I want a D2X, but w/o the slapping mirror. Just get rid of the slapping mirror, and the noisy shutter. I want this camera to be as humanly quiet as possible.

Don't need electronic preview either, I can use the "review" to check framing.

I will still pay $5K.

is the Fuji S3 and Oly E1 - Never had any blown highlights with the Olympus E1, plus the colors are fantastic. The D2hs doesnot have the greatest DR I can already see. But, its comparable to most DSLR's out (besides the two mentioned)

Also, noise on the D2hs is almost non existent. If they can do this in the D2x it would be an improvement as I see quite a few noisy D2x shots.

My biggest current issue is getting the DoF isolation back, as such I'd either like to see:
a) A full-frame DSLR OR

b) A set of shorter lenses that are 1+ stops faster (eg 50-135f2.0) that give us the same thing as their predecessors did on film.

Asside from that, other improvements I'd like to see (don't necessarilly need, but would be motivating factors to upgrade):
  • Decreased noise levels at highest ISO settings and possibly expand the ISO range.
  • Expanded dynamic range.
  • Faster DX wide angle lenses (eg. 10-24f2.8DX).
  • Higher magnification viewfinder (ie built-in DK-17M).

I never complain noise because I use to have film cameras if I choose wrong exposure nosie will show up lot of people these days don't even know how it works and get a nice D2X think the most expensive camera should be able to have the greatest pictures no matter what. I remember when I was working for a photoshop 18 years ago every single customer came in looking for films for there cameras they always pick ISO100 film sometime I ask these people why you pick ISO100 they will say I always use ISO100 but don't know why and what situation to use ISO100, some people will even come back and complain the flash on the camera is not strong enough for my evening party!!!

When I use my film camera I use different films 25, 64, 100, 125, 200, 400, 800, 1000 so I know the different between ISO100 and ISO1000.

Just wants to recomend people complain high nosie at ISO 400 or over please put your dslr aside go ebay buy a easiest slr Nikon FM2 and learn how to control nosie with different films is expensive to learn.

I start with Nikon F301, F801, FM2, F801s, and my last SLR F4S I still have it, my first Dlsr D2H and I still have it, great camera jealous people with D2X and still complain this and that.

well is my 2cents

1) give me a camera with 16bit output so I can use digital for sunrises/sunsets. Impossible with 12bit, you can actually count the steps in a very darkish blue gradient. And I want mor DR, no more partially blown channels.

2) In addition to that, start selling photographic skill. That would improve my shots more than gear.

3) An AF-S 85mm f/1,4 NON-G VR would still be nice ;D

I have been using film for 40 years. So I know about exposure and grain. My idea with this thread was to tell Nikon what I feel is important to improve.

Everyone talks about FF. I do not need FF at all. I bought some DX lens and do not want to throw away my 10,5mm DX fisheye or my 17-55 DX
Higher ISO and more dinamic range would be welcome to work with available light.
I also wanted to tell Nikon that Capture should be free and faster.

It would be nice to have a nice DX 50-200 VR, The 70-200 VR is just to big and the 70-300 ED just so weak. Give us something in between.
It´s funny to see people telling me I am geting my exposure wrong.
This thread is to tell Nikon what we need next

Other factors being equal, a larger pixel size will give lower noise and better dynamic range. Perhaps Nikon can wring out a bit more performance from their DX sensors, but theoretical limits are being reached already. It is hardly surprising that the D2X does not have good high ISO performance.

See this post by Roger Clark for details about the physics.

http://clarkvision.com/imagedetail/does.pixel.size.matter/

In addition small pixels become diffraction limited at large apertures. In the case of the D2X with stringent criteria for resolution, lenses become diffraction limited at f/5.6. See the calculator at this site:

I was listening on radio to the swearing in of Judge Roberts for the senate supreme court hearings today, and the sound of DSLRs nearly drowned out everything else. Since it was radio, I don't know the proportion of white to dark lenses.

I have no doubt that the D200 (when it is ever released) will no doubt be able to capture pics of birds, kids, and pets. So, most of you have nothing to worry about.

Perhaps this is a chance for Nikon to come out with a new interchangeable lens system, while keeping compatibilty with the current AF, AFD, AFS lenses.

The system will be based on a mirrorless, prism-less, camera, where the rear element of the lenses can come right up to the CCD. I know some people will think of the new Sony R1, but I want the excellent optics of Nikon.

Instead of mirror and prism, it will rely on (post-shot) review, like we currently have on D2X. It will have the feature where when you half-press the shutter button, it will start "shooting", but it does not save to card, instead just let you view the running results on the LCD (and/or viewfinder LCD). And when you full-press the button, then it save to card, either one-shot, low-fps, or high-fps.

If you are manually focusing, this will be hard, but many if not most people are using AF now, so that will not be a problem with not having a realtime view of the framing/image. In fact, if D2X is a realist manual-focusing camera, it would either have an option of split-screen focusing screen, or putting the focus indicator in the middle of the frame when you switch to MF.

I think 4fps (to do framing) is sufficient for low-end camera like D70, perhasp 8fps for D2x version.

The old lenses would of course still works.

According to the Sony R1 online literature, having the rear element of the lens being able to be so close to the CCD, instead of an inch or more away, allow it to design very good wide-angle lens with much less chromatic aberration, etc. The new Nikon lens system would have this advantage, and give Nikon fans another excuse to spend a boat load of money, which of course Nikon would love.

Whether the new lens mount on the camera would be the same as the old, or in fact wider to create more advantages in lens design later on while providing a full-capability inset adaptor for the old lenses, that can be decided by the company either way.

But the big advantages will be quiet operation, plus more durable camera w/o the vibriation of the slapping mirror which can wear on other components or the mirror itself.
