Where is the problem? When I look through the veiwfinder on my E300 I see a dark speck just to the left of the focus crosshair. I realy dont know what the crosshair is really called? I took of the lens off and changed it with another lens and the speck is still there. Is this on the sensor? What should I do to fix this.

Thanks in advance,

If it was on the lens it would be in both the viewfinder and the pictures.

If it was on the sensor, then it would be in your pictures, not your viewfinder.

Check to see if it's on the mirror, and then look to the right to see if it's on the focus screen (where the crosshairs are actually located). To clean just use normal lens cleaning blower/brush.

If it's not on either, then it's inside and that could be a warrenty issue.

Mike thanks for the reply,

I don't see it on the pictures, Thankfully, I shot the Florida Gators Football game tonight and I dont see the speck on the pictures. I'm panicing less now. I dont see anything on the mirror but my eyes are not what they used to be. This may sound like a dumb question but where is the focus screen?

Thanks
Chris

Most have dust on their viewfinders. Learn to live with it. It's very common. At least it's not on your sensor, then you would have to deal with it.

Chris,

I know how you feel as I have a few blotches in the VF. Not to worry though they do not affect the performance of the camera. I have just gotten used to the fact it is there and not an issue, for those with higher end cameras like the E1 they can remove the VF and clean them, guess we need to spend a little more :).

it has a very delicate surface and you can do more harm than you think
take it to a repair centre if it's really bothering you
see if it's on the focus screen (where the crosshairs are actually
located). To clean just use normal lens cleaning blower/brush.

If you have lots, then you forget about it.

These things irritate you, but they are of no importance. I have 2 old Canon EOS 600s. Superb film cameras. Filthy viewfinders. I leart to live with it and still use them from time to time.

These have NO effect whatsoever on your images.

I glad to here its harmless, It was a shock too see but I can live with it now I know its not a big deal.

Thanks for the help

I just returned my Pro1 on Friday and picked-up an E-300 (w/ 2 lens kit + FL20, included...deal was too good to pass-up) and was shocked to find a spec of dust in the VF, just above and to the right of the center AF point.

Took off the 14-45 lens, tried the 40-150mm....same thing. Not the lenses.

Next, took off both lenses and just looked through the VF...spec is still there.

I then peer inside to the mirror and focusing screen and both are clean...hmmm.

I took a few quick pics of a white wall and the spec, which is very dark and clearly visible in the VF, isn't on the pics. Thankfully!

But, this is still very frustrating as it was like this right-out-of-the-box. I'm going back to the shop this afternoon to have them take a look...unfortunately, E-300s are selling like hot-cakes and they are out-of-stock, so I'll likely have to keep this one until a new one arrives.

Mike.

This really doesn't have anything to do with your problem - but - a few years ago I purchased a brand new sealed in the box Leica M4-P and there was a fingerprint on the inside of the viewfinder window. It had to go back to Leica for cleaning. Now that's irksome.

I had one too. Took it to camera store. The man blew it out with one of those rocket things. All gone. No more speck.
