Weekly sports thread Sep 10th

Here are some from Friday's ame. 1DM2, 100-400 till I lost lighting, then 70-200L till I lost lighting, then added 550EX. Shot 3200 most of the night. AV mode at 5.6 or 2.8 depending on zoom and switched to Manual mode 1/400 @ 2.8 when I went to flash, but I made a rookie mistake when I added flash. Forgot to set the flash to high speed sync so all the shutter speed I got was 1/250. Most of the flash shots were to blury. Live and learn. I shot JPEG till I switched to flash and then shot RAW. Used my 10D as second body and used a 50 1.4 and 85 1.8. Raw processed in C1Pro. Neatimage used on the JPEG's.

A little different from the norm...Rodeo, a sport I'm not trying! Here are few early results. I'm working on them now, have not gotten to the bull riding yet. Here's a few from the broncs, terrible lighting, used a 20d and 85 1.8, most at 1600 ISO, 1.8, 2, & 2.2 (Av) usually at about 200 to 250, and heavy processing.

Hello All,

I see that the competition is stiff again this week! Here are some of my shots from an NCAA Division III women's soccer game Saturday afternoon. They were all taken with the 1DII, 70-200/2.8L IS, and 1.4x TC. I found myself wanting for more reach often enough that I probably should have went with the 2x TC today. ISO 100, daylight WB, wide open. All except 1 of these shots are Photoshopped crops (levels adjustments and Focus Magic to make them more suitable for screen viewing) that are downsampled to 700x467 (or 467x700) pixels by BreezeBrowser Pro. More shots, including 100% versions, are available here...

I tried to take Nill's advice from last week about cropping tighter. As always, comments and questions are welcome.

Best Regards,

Eric

One candid and a couple of action photos.

Anything that can be shot at less than 1/500 is simply moving too slow to be of interest.

From earlier today at a local college. 20D, 400 f5.6, AI-Servo, center point.

I've done two weddings and four football games in the last eight days. Wow, am I tired.

All shots with Canon 1DMII w/70-200 2.8L and 550 EX flash. All are cropped, levels, and images shot at over 400 ISO have been run through Noise Ninja.

This one was from the 7th grade game: 400 ISO, 3.2 aperture, and 1/1600 shutter speed

Roughly the same for this one:

This one was 3200 asa, 3.2 aperture 1/800 shutter speed. 56 yard TD catch

And, of course, the Pirate cheerleaders:

The rest of the shots are at: http://www.crawfordamerica.com
