Just got it today and I am totaly amazed!!!!

Thanks to the qroup ..

Does anyone know how it compares with its predecessor, the BJC-8200? I'd be curious to know if anyone has done side by side comparisions, both with the original BJC-8200 inks and the new inks/driver. I have the 8200 and I'm still blown away by it. :-)

That's been my reaction, too. I can't say I'm perfectly satisfied with any OTHER digital purchase I've made during my recent "conversion" process, but I'm completely satisfied with this printer (and the paper I use with it--Epson Matte Heavyweight). Glad you like yours too!

I finally ordered the S800. I had purchased a HP990 Cse last night and had second thoughts about the cartridge as I take alot of outdoor photos and run out of blue alot. So I returned the HP today. This seperate ink tank thing I hope will make life a bit cheaper on me.

My last Canon BJC-5000 chewed through the photo carts like there was no tomorrow. I loved the output, but the expense was rediculous. Plus the noise from my 5000 was annoying. I tested the S600 at Staples today and found it to be very quiet. So that and everything everyone has said made me change my mind.

Thanks

Darrin,

Here's the link again for what appears to be the cheapest source of the Canon inks on the web:

I hope you enjoy your S800 as much as I'm enjoying mine.

I found the cartridges for $6.95 at http://www.inksell.com . They also have a package of 4 blacks and 2 each of the color BCI-6's for 77 bucks (about 5.50 each.)

I have not ordered from them yet, but I plan to when I need ink. I've had the 800 for 2 weeks now and to say it is impressive is an understatement.

pagecomputer.com is cheaper then techstore. The last time I tried
to order form techstore, I had many problems - I ended up canceling
my order and using 'page'.

Be careful. these are NOT the OEM cartridges. From the inksell web site...

"For Canon customers, we offer brand-new compatible ink tanks and cartridges for most of Canon ink tanks and cartridges"
Note the word "compatible".

Does this mean buying an "off brand" may not be the archival/comparable
product as the Canon. I, too, was thinking I would not be getting THE
same product as the Cannon. Yes?

You are correct. These are NOT archival per Canon's specs. If you do not care about the longevity of your prints, many papers and inks will do. If you want the longevity, use the paper and inks designed for the printer.

I use Canon inks with Canon Photo Pro paper for my best pics - pics that I want to last the longest, and other papers as appropriate. For instance I just did a photo montage of a picnic we attended, and other matte and photo papers did a great job. This was for a temporary display that need not last for years.

We all have our own ideas about this matter. Nothing wrong with using other inks and papers - as long as they meet your requirements for the task at hand.

I am looking for a new photo printer now and I noticed S800 too. I really (I mean re-e-ealy) like pictures it produces, but I'm shocked by ink price:
$11x5 (you need 5 of them) = $55.

"5 in 1" cartrige for Epson 870 is priced at only $18!

Did you do any research on that? (I mean maybe S800's set of 5 cartriges has higher capacity or something...)

Many of us are ordering Canon ink carts for 8.95 from the techstore. In practice, the photo cyan and photo magenta go first. The rest last for quite a while.

If you search in this forum, you will find that cost per print is not bad at all. Several folks have priced various printers, inks and papers - you can easily find all that with the search funtion too.

Morris Jones......... your a joke. You posted in the Epson forum saying the S800 is fanatastic. You now mentioned you purchased this printer today. How the hell did you do that when you first posted on Sep. 1 in Epson forum. This must be your first major printer purchase and I understand how happy you are but please be honest and don't cross post in other forums. Once again Morris Jones your a dood!

Canon's ink tanks last much longer than Epson's cartridges and you only have to replace the ink tank that's empty not all colors at the same time. Colors are not used equally, not even close. Some ink tanks will look completely full when you replace a color.

Read it again bro and don't tap into something you don"t have a clue on. He's posting in the Epson group and yes this is not the Epson group. SO THE JOKE IS YOU TOO!

I agree. I took advantage of the officemax deal. I only get good prints though on the photo papaer pro. I bought some office max permium photo inkjet paper to take advantage of the over $300.00 special, but all the photos that have skin tones come out real blotchy. It looks awful. Any suggestions. Please email me a reply to [email protected]

thanks
