New accessory DK 17-M....super!

Nikon makes a DG2 magnifying eyepiece for the D100. It is supposed
to be a 2x magnifier. It projects quite a ways back off the native
eyepiece. Does anyone have any experience with this eyepiece?
Yes. It won't cover the complete viewfinder, just the center (no readouts). Because of this, it has a "flip up" mechanism so you can flip it out of the way and see the entire viewfinder.

It has a very shallow eyepoint, you need to put your eye pretty close to it.

The optical quality is rather marginal, it appears to be a 2 element design, which isn't enough at 2x to perform well without noticible distortion and CA.

I no longer deal with Adorama. I didn't like them all that much a
couple of years ago when people used to say they were almost as
good as B&H. I found them rude, and not at all as helpful as B&H or
CWO (too bad CWO is gone).

Here's something I wrote recently about Adorama;

And here's their continuing slide down the tubes at

This is mounted incorrectly. The hood should fit around the metal
lip of the eyepiece.
It's not "incorrect", it's actually more comfortable that way. The DK-17M reduces the eyepoint of the viewfinder, you have to get your eye closer to it than you have to for the regular D2X viewfinder. Putting the hood on the lip of the eyepiece makes it hard to get close enough.

That has nothing to do with the question he asked.

Both have only make threads. They both screw into a D2X eyepiece, but neither can screw into each other. (eeew, that sounds near obscene).
