Just got a Ricoh Caplio GX8 yesterday, and have been trying it out, with mixed results. Its obvious the camera is capable of capturing a lot of detail, but metering seems a bit hit and miss.I've now changed to centre-weighted metering, and will see if that helps.I've set the sharpness to Soft, and noise is not a problem at ISO 64 or 100.The flash takes ages to warm up.External flash is quicker (if you turn off the camera flash),but too powerful, even with exposure compensation.Corner softness is there, but minimal, except when you get very close in macro mode, where it increases the closer you get.I love the wide-angle lens.I still need to experiment with the camera - I've got some excellent results with it already, but not consistently,so any tips would be welcome.

Can't speak for the GX8 (I have the GX) but I imagine it's similar in exposure. Matrix metering is very prone to overexposure, I settled on -0.7EV as my "zero" point. External flash requires a flashgun that does its own metering - the "auto" setting on most generic flashes. You need to set the same aperture (f-stop) on the flash and the camera to get correct exposure.

i have the same problem too. some object (usually the moving one ) is out of focus very easily.

I found the run (scene) works okie, sometime.

it seems the Auto focuss is very slow and very not anti-sharke. just a slight movement could cause the whole photo to be out of focus

I am still experimenting it with the best setting to take moving objects.

as from a review, I avoid using iso 400+. I use iso 200 indoor and start playing with iso 100.

sometime, I think the flash is too strong, so I use either the night mode or external flash (from my old SLR)

I got some great night shots from this camera
