Hi,

just having a couple of thoughts here and thought I'd put them on the porch and see what people think.

This will be our 12th competition and when you look at the HOF there are some mighty fine pictures there and maybe we should run a thread posting these pictures and try and generate some more interest. I would suggest that the title not be "Oly comp pictures" but something a little more obscure so that those that don't normally take part end up viewing it! Also we should only post the medium size pictures - so it loads quickly for all and a regular poster does it - I don't post that regularly but will do it if no one else volunteers.

Second point is really to try and make voting easier. The panacea is of course voting online but before we attempt that I've updated a script I've been working on so that users can download a list of entries in to their browser and the moderator can download the same as a spreadsheet for voting. The main question is does the user part make sense i.e. download the file lists, place your marks next to the ones you like and hey presto you have you votes.

I should have been home hours ago from work.

Had to call in and sort out more AOhell problems with a neighbour. The fantastic outcome being that my other half was already there and had given the AOL people such a bollocking for giving such dreadfull service that she managed to get the ADSL account cancelled before the 12 month contract period.
So whatever the voting outcome .. THAT'S what I call a result :-)

Congratulations to Doreen for an excellent photo in the competition gallery. The galleries are ready for the 13th challenge (lucky 13 for you Doreen). If you need any assistance, the "old" hands will be happy to provide it.

Congratulations to John Stankewitz for his win in the exhibition gallery.

Hi Gearrd,

I think your first point(s) is worthy of debate and a thread should be raised to discuss the pros and cons of what you suggest + any other points of view which are put forward.

With regard to your second point - I found your spread sheet invaluable during the voting process. I doubt if anyone makes up their mind in one viewing but having the ability to record the 'marks of the moment' at various viewings in a spreadsheet makes the decision process much less of a chore. For those who have no idea of csv files and spreadsheets the purely text alternative will save a bit of typing.

Well done both - glad to see that my opinion isn't totally whacky and the two shots that I thought the best came 1st and 2nd.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

I think it could use a little tweaking to have it not include the placeholders and/or the gallery closed images. Even though the rules specifically list the placeholders as not eligible for votes, I still see some getting votes. Too bad there isn't some way to incorporate the pbase vote for this image function.
