With all the postings about the assumed E-20, coming out soon, later, at all it makes it difficult to know whether to buy an E-10 now or not.

Yes the E-10 is a great camera, but if the E-20 is coming out within a month or two, surely I would rather wait to get the latest version, assuming there will be new features that the E-10 does not have (there are times when the replacement is not as good as the original, but we don't know).

I would not be happy buying the E-10 now and then a month later there is a new version, this is just human nature.

So I wish that Olympus would just go ahead and let us know what the situation is, it would make it easier for folks like me who are sitting on the fence. I would also like to know if all of the accessories and lenses I'm buying will be compatable with the E-10's eventual replacement.

Since I already have an E-10 I'm not missing anything, but since I want to get another I'd like to know if I'm wasting my time waiting.

I guess asking Olympus to let us know is wishful thinking, but it surely would make it more pleasant.

For now I'm having fun with the E-10!

Make it easy on yourself ... just wait for the E-40 ... I am sure it will be four time as good as the E-10 and twice as good as the E-20. By the way ... do you ever actually use your camera ... or just collect equipment?

I think it is time to ban some users. I really like this forum and i hate to see some people destroying it... I don't know how i can help, but feel like i must say this.
Be well!

Hi Jan

you can't ban people - just let it wash over :-) there's plenty of good people around, and anyway, in this case I think Poster was probably just being mischevous.

Free Speech Rules - just don't let it get to you

This is a hard one to call.

Ordinarily I'd say wait until the autumn shows - AFAIK they, or what passed for a show this autumn is over - no camera.

Ergo I'd say we won’t hear about it until February now for summer shipping -- now that is getting just too close to the KodOly coop interchangeable lens camera cited for late 2002. Isn’t it?

Ergo, I’m going to say, and pop into my bookies in the morning to bet on there not being an upgrade camera.

I really thing we should know by know – I can’t see KodOly launching two capital cameras so close together (next year) where one of them is the eagerly awaited E10 replacement upgrade – of course the KodOly could be late, so if we do see a summer E20 then it’ll be the next summer again for the other one.

So that’s my bet – no new E10 camera this year.

The only new Olympus camera that I have actually read anything about is the venture with Kodak and that tracks perfectly with what Ger Bee is saying here ... that the camera will be introduced in a show in February and actually go on sale in the fall (October) of next year. The "new E-20" is a product of the imagination of current E-10 owners ... not something that Olympus has put on the street. It appears to be an urban legend that has taken on a life of it's own ....

I would agree, since ger went ahead and bought the DX1, it was a big clue for me, that his info from a few months ago must have been correct! Nothing till next year..

woop, der it is!

Hi Ger
there is a big show in Japan which finishes on the 23rd September

I think you're wrong about this - There was obviously talk in the Geneva show, and the Geman camera shop owner seemed convinced that there would be an announcement in the next week or so.

Also - Oly have made fixed lens cameras for a number of years now - I'd guess that the E-10 has been the most successful of these - why on earth would they stop now?

They certainly are in the habit of making incremental changes to cameras - look at the 2000, 2020,3000,3030,2040,3040,4040 (is that all of them :-). I'd be very surprised if there wasn't an announcement by the end of the month.

Finally, this must be hitting E-10 sales - that's not too bad if there IS a new camera (it must be hitting D-7 sales a bit too) but if there isn't one - surely they would just come out and deny it.

kind regards

I'll say this just one more time, in case you missed it. The E20 will be announced on Sep 13th. It will be 5.2 megapixels and will cost $1995.

I bought my E10 just over a month ago, knowing that a replacement would probably be announced shortly (and with dpreview buzzing about it); I'm glad I didn't wait. I upgraded from an Oly2020z and have shot better photos than I ever did with that camera, mostly because the E10 is closer in operation to the film cameras that I used in the past.

When the E20, or whatever, ships, I'll look at it, but will probably wait for a six+ megapixel, large sensor camera, the E10 fits my current needs without breaking the bank.
With all the postings about the assumed E-20, coming out soon,

Actually, this is a decent strategy unless you just absolutely have to have the most current thing right now! Ungrading ever other camera makes the most sense if you have to upgrade at all. I am sure everyone thought they had bought the camera of a lifetime with their first 2 megapixel camera. There will always be something bigger and better over the next hill. I must admit I was once a "gotta have the lastest right now" kind of a guy. I have mellowed and I feel a lot better now! Lot less strain! Ha! :-) Cheers ...

It seems to me, that no 2 cameras are quite alike. Although you can take a lot of the knowledge of photography with you, there's a learning curve required to "know your camera" well. Until you do, you won't get the best from it.

For me personally, the E-10 learning curve was about 6-months, but there are still areas I'm not fully experienced in (eg. getting the best from my 3rd party flash gun - what settings to use in what situations, distances to subject, bounce etc.). Maybe a 30 year veteran would find it all very simple though, but I'm only a hobbiest of a few years, so I have much still to experience (I would say learn, but until you experience what you've read and learnt, and made the mistakes, you don't really know what you've assimilated - books are no substitute for real life experience).

A-so. Big show I miss it. May change everything – when did we know about the E10 last year? - really I cannot remember - I think we knew already – announced officially when??? – anyone remember and available from November for the lucky few..

What do we know about the E10 now?

Thought Police Warning!

I guess you will be incharge then When do I pack my bags
to be sent to one of your re-education camps?

My two cents and that is about to be taken away from me.
